Will a chicken raise a duckling? In our experience, YES! We have hatched ducklings under a broody hen before and it went great.
Part of the plan at the cottage is to expand our duck and chicken flocks this year. We could have put eggs in an incubator but there is just nothing quite like counting down the days and then seeing little fluffy heads pop out from under a broody hen!
Our young Indian Runner drake, Merlin, seems to be doing a good job! We put 8 eggs under our broody mamma hen. After candling, one wasn't viable so that left 7 eggs.
After all was said and done, one little hatchling didn't make it for some reason but 5 did!

This broody mamma has quite a story. We had a dozen black australop hens not too long ago. Sadly a mink got into the coop one night and killed all the chickens. Except one. This tough little girl. She has raised one clutch of lavender maran chicks for us and now has hatched out a new generation of ducklings. She's earned a lifelong home here already.

So yes, a chicken will happily raise a duckling. Although she will likely be quite upset the first time they go for a swim!
