Harris campaign vetting about 12 potential VP picks

Vice President Kamala Harris is vetting about 12 possible running mates, more than previously reported, a source tells CBS News. Chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes has the details.

Harris' optimal VP pick is Pete Buttigieg hands down. Of the candidates on her list, Pete's by far the best communicator and he flat out refuses to be bullied by Republicans. He clearly loves a debate, and always comes prepared with verifiable facts and figures, simple analogies, and quick responses -- even when he's being grilled by Congress or far-right news reporters. (In one of his many appearances on FOX News, there was a live audience which gave him a standing ovation!) He served in our military -- a great way to develop leadership skills, demonstrate loyalty to our country, and learn how to thrive under pressure. Then he entered politics as a mayor in Indiana (South Bend, ) so he's had loads of experience being held to account by people of all kinds. A Harris--Buttigieg ticket will be unbeatable and give Democrats the landslide victory they need to send Trump packing!

I think Secretary Buttigieg would be an excellent VP pick! He is exactly who they need to go up against JD Vance. They are both Millennials from the Midwest, war veterans, and Ivy-league educated attorneys. Vance won’t be able to “other” him by calling Buttigieg an out of touch coastal elite. He’s from Indiana so Vance can’t claim he doesn’t understand Midwest/heartland values. He will run circles around Vance in the debate. The Congress members need to stay put because we don’t need to risk their seats flipping to Republican, and we need to governors to stay put and make sure the elections aren’t tampered with on their states. Harris/Buttigieg 2024!

Pete Buttigieg is great.. very smart and a great debater, but so is Gavin Newsome, and I'm surprised he's not on the list. That man is smart and also a really great debater! But I'm sure picking a VP IS VERY strategic and hopefully she picks the right one. 🙌

I like Pete but I don’t think they will pick him. Considering they are trying to win voters from both sides, I think Pete would just put the ticket wayy too far liberal to be helpful for them gaining new voters.

Avoid the esoteric when picking a VP. Settle upon a VP steeped in Midwestern values, with independent voter appeal, who has the political fighting skills of Mohammed Ali.

I can think of none better than JD Vance's arch nemesis, Tim Ryan.

I just heard Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz and was very impressed. He's superbly engaging. What I call is video charisma is very important. Not a big fan of just being tactical. The quintessential tactical approach got us Trump vis a vis Hillary Clinton and the DNC being only tactical. Examples of only video charisma alone are Sonny Bono, Kari Lake, Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan, and Trump. In current politics style and charisma matter especially to the semi informed undecided. I hope people start checking out Tim Walz. I do not live in Minnesota, I recently saw him communicate and was wowed.
