I used to work in a bank as a teller so I had the inside opportunity to see how much people had in their bank accounts. One day a man pulled up in an old julape car, bumper hanging off, paint peeling. He was not a well put together man and automatically i judged him as someone who was poor that probably had a few hundred dollars in the bank or is here to cash a government assistance check. When i pulled up his back account he had over 100k in there and was withdrawing $5, 000 to pay for his daughter's wedding. I was floored with my mouth wide open. That was the last time i judged anyone based on what they have or how they looked.

About a dozen years ago, I asked my father why I was driving a 20 y/o car while others at work had new cars. My father simply answered "It's because they have debt but you have wealth."

My Dad taught me the importance of saving when I got my first job at 17. I’m so glad he did because today, at 63, I have retired! I enjoy your videos.

My biggest regret is waiting until I was in my 30s to start budgeting. It was the single greatest thing I've ever done for myself, literally turned my life around and gave me control of my finances and credit. If you're reading this don't be scared to budget, I promise you it will help you.

We hated our mortgage payment but still owed $25K and were facing ten more years of payments. We couldn’t make more money from our day jobs but I remembered delivering newspapers as a kid. We looked into it and signed up for three paper routes that paid about $1100/month. We had to get up at 3:30 AM, but we worked together, lost weight, got in much better shape, and paid off the mortgage in 30 months. Over 25 years later we’ve never been in debt since.

I treat my credit card like a debit and use it for everything. I also pay it down to zero before the statement date comes. It’s helped me get cash back, increased my score, and protected me from fraud, and interest. I only suggest credit cards for people that are super responsible. Great video.

My mom forced me to open a roth IRA when I was 16 and got my first job. I'm forever grateful she made me start early. She didn't want me to make the same mistakes she made!

I work at a dealership. The amount of monthly payments being about 30%+ of the customers monthly income blows me away every time we close a deal.

When I got out of the Navy back in 1988 we had a Lt Commander come and give us a economic de-briefing and he said "pay yourself a salary of at least 10% out of your salary" I took his words to heart and it has helped me a lot!

Was told in my retirement class, people who track budgets on a simple spreadsheet, save 10 to 15% more than people who don’t

Great content, as always. At my previous employer, my coworkers were consistently buying new cars, dressing expensively, and vacationing lavishly. But, for the most part, a number of them had bad attitudes towards the job. I kept my same vehicle, paid off my bills, managed my money well, established an emergency fund, and retired comfortably, escaping the toxicity of the work environment.

We were in bad shape for retirement being 58 and 60 is a scary I finally took charge of the finances....paid off our house, put monies in a high yield money market, and a high yeild savings. Bought a cd ladder, started a roth ira for me, put 18k in the s&p bought 2 seperate 18month cds. I know it's not going to let me retire at 65, but its a start.

I have some acquaintances (married couple) who always had to have the latest and greatest: phones, computers, cars, etc. Regularly treated their friends to meals out. When I announced to my friends I had paid off my car loan (my own mistake of buying a car I couldn't afford, but that's beside the point), their response was, "So are you upgrading your car now?" I found out they filed bankruptcy about a year ago. I can't say I'm terribly surprised. Oh, and 5 years later, I still have that paid-off car!

Im 27 with no debt. Bought both cars in cash (2020 corolla, and 2010 honda odyssey). 47k saved for a downpayment, 10 grand in ira, and 2 grand in stocks. I know some will say my priorities are mixed up, but saving for a house has been my main priority. I did all this with two kids and a wife on my 65k alone. If i can do that while supporting them, anyone can.

Wife's best friend's mom was a school teacher and Dad was an engineer. They live in a big house in a very high end area. They went to parties or galas almost every night, but never entertained at home. The windows to the front yard had heavy drapes and were always closed. The living room, formal dining room and den had no furniture. They were always on the edge of default on the house and cars. They were mid 40s at the time. Wasting time and money to keep up with the Jones on a Smiths wage.

My dad's neighbor finances everything. His camper. His 4 wheeler. His golf cart. His boat. His pickup. His wife's vehicle. His semi and semi trailer. He even financed tires for a car! I've learned to not finance things from seeing him. To be broke before your paycheck hits because you have so many minimum monthly payments - no thanks!

I remember I was in my 20s, and I worked in the fine jewelry and watch department at Macy's. People who looked like they had money bought the cheapest "fine" watches at $250+. I'd never forget one day this woman cheapest came in, clothes dirty and worn, shoes holy and able to "talk." She said she wanted a nice watch for her husband's birthday. I told her she wanted fashion watches on the other side of the store. She said, "No, I'm on the right side." I directed her to the cheaper fine watches for about $250. She said, "No, those look cheap." I let her look around. Finally, she came across a Rado. She asked to see it. She said it was unique, and no one would have it. I took it out of the case and told her the watch was $995. She said, "OK, I'll get two, one for him and one for me and pay cash." My mouth dropped. She made the purchase and walked out. I watched her as she left. She got into a white Mercedes Benz with a black top and had a driver. This was way before the days of Uber. It was then I realized not to judge a book by the cover.

These numbers absolutely blew my mind. I thought for sure I was under average. I only have about $30, 000 saved. But I run 2 small businesses. I'm 26. I probably have about $40k in assets. This made me feel so much better about where I'm at.
