Checking Transmission Fluid in Ford/Mazda M5OD Manual Transmission
Показать описание
Checking the transmission fluid in my 1988 Ford F-150 2wd w/4.9efi and M5OD R2 manual transmission.
Make sure you are parked on a level surface before checking. If desired, you can change the transmission fluid while you are down there if it hasn't been changed in a while. All drain plugs should be snugged up. Don't over torque them.
1. Remove the fill plug and then open the drain plug and drain fluid into an appropriate drain pan.
2. Clean off the magnetic drain plug.
3. Replace the drain plug after draining and then refill with the proper fluid (Approx. 3.8 quarts) until the fluid slowly dribbles out of the fill plug. (Gear oil pumps or suction guns can make this part easier)
4. Replace the fill plug and check for any leaks.
5. Properly recycle all old fluid.
ATTENTION: This manual transmission takes automatic transmission fluid Mercon/Dexron III, Mercon V, or similar standard. DO NOT use gear oil or any very thick additives. This transmission can't handle high viscosity fluids. Some have reported using Syncromesh type fluids and having success with them. Use at your own risk.
Disclaimer: Attempt these repairs at your own risk. I can't and won't be held responsible for you damaging your equipment or yourself. Use common sense, basic safety equipment, and get professional help if you are unsure of your ability to make the repairs.
