watching your DM roll something and then grimace is always far worse than seeing them smile sinisterly

Note, Jace's car broke down on the way, and he STILL made it to the game. Props to him.

"Oh, no, you are right; the owlbear is technically closer."

there are times we bend fate for a friend, but fate has it's mind made up

I actually felt bad for Jace. Someone give this man a hug and his character a love interest.

"Just take inspiration dude" was the final nail in the coffin. Sent me.

Say it with me folks. 'Real Life comes first'. Rule no 1 of DnD.
Fucking props to DMs who make our lives a little easier to handle.

The owlbear really needed a win. Thanks for the invulnerability, DM.

I had the worst day of my life, sat down for a game of D&D to try and forget about it and my character got beheaded by an instant kill mechanic. Sod's law is real

The facial expressions are KILLING me. In part because that was the same expression I made with every new trainwreck.

Honestly, this is a good DM. Caring about his players and trying to help them along the way. That's the role of a DM. It's helping people grow from the lessons of the story you present to your players while having fun with everyone while your at it!

I audibly reacted to several of these. I feel so horrible for him. He needs a hug.

I’m really impressed by how easy it is to forget this is all one person, it really feels like this is multiple people reacting off each other (particularly with the DM)

I actually had a similar moment in my own campaign. A player's grandma had passed away the day of the session, but they insisted on playing still to try and cheer them up.

During the session, one of the PCs got killed in a fight that they all had to run away from. We took a short break after, but I could tell that the bereaved player was affected by this.

I always intended PC deaths to have meaningful consequences, but this particular day, I just knew that I couldn't do it, so I pulled a deus ex machina and had them revived by a God that had taken an interest in them (this was already in place, just not the revival).

I think I made the right choice overall. It at least softened the blow.

I think some of my fellow players thought I was joking when the question was asked and I got to say
"Weeell - dad died on Tuesday, now let's get to some D&D"

Weirdest thing, the owl bear just explodes

😂 Yessss. It’s okay to go soft on someone when they’re going through a lot. As a player, I would absolutely be fine with that happening in my game. Just say whatever you want for a roll, and move on. Don’t ruin someone’s day even more than it is already. Life is tough. The game doesn’t have to also kick your ass.

This is a wonderful example of no game being more important than your FRIENDS. ❤
