Makeup looks pretty, but leaves a pretty sizeable mess behind.

And funny enough, before I got into to doing videos, I really didn't have much interest in heavy makeup. I mean, I wore mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow every now and then and lipstick for special occasions. I had my makeup done for my wedding and the artist did a KILLER job. While she was doing it I was just fascinated by all the products and tools she was using. I thought that there was no way I'd be able to pull that all off. But, as time went on and I started doing more videos alongside us getting an HD video camera, makeup quickly became a necessity. HD picks up every single flaw, so there's some prep work required before you go on camera. If you're a friend of mine, you'll know that I am a pretty casual girl and hardly wear makeup otherwise.

I love the tip about using elastic band for hanging the brushes as well as all of your tips on this video.

I did a video on my channel about repairing broken powder makeup products. I used alcohol, but instead of just letting the chunks dry, I used a makeup spatula to press the chunks back into the compact so they all fit. It worked well!

Some great tips! But you can't soak brushes in a glass like that if you want them to last long, the glue in the handle will loosen up and the bristles will fall out :(

Love your videos Melissa! You make cleaning bearable :P

Great tips. With the brushes I wouldn't submerge them in water before cleaning as this tends to damage the join of where the bristles meet brush. Best to clean them without submerging full brush, this will to maintain brush hairs better.

Hi! I just found your channel and I really loved your videos, thanks for sharing your tips on the most various subjects! I'm a makeup artist, so may I give you a suggestion? Never dip your brushes into water like that. I know it's not for a long time, but bare with me: by the time you reach that last brush, its handle will have been soaked in water for quite a while, and that will decrease the "life-spam" of your brushes. If you must use a glass filled with water (it's not necessary, you can wet then as you clean them), fill it up only till the water reaches the metal part. ;) Oh, also, for brushes with natural hair bristles, you can use a small amount of conditioner to keep the hairs soft!

Hi Melissa, I've started cleaning my mascara brush after each use. Just a bit of soap in my hand and rub the wand on it. Rinse the soap off and put the wand back in the mascara. Washes away the germs and gets rid of any gloopy bits on the brush.

I'm not sure if you have seen those Daily Makeup Brush Cleaner from Sephora. This bottle works wonder & is good to have a quick clean up of brushes on daily basis after use and have the thorough wash of the brushes once a fortnight. I find it useful as Singapore is a humid country so our skin is pretty oily and germs grow fast when brushes are  used on daily basis. Helps keep allergies away.

How I make my mascara last longer and keep it cleaner is I take the wand out steam clean it with a high pressured steam mist and it cleans it very well and the heat kills bacteria.Well I'm doing that to keep any dust or anything else getting into the bottle I cover the opening with plastic wrap. After the wand is clean I put it back into the bottle. And it seams to work well for me I hope it works for someone else as well. And Thank You so much clean myspace for those awesome makeup cleaning tips.

I have tried many brush cleaning methods over the years but the one I love and have settled on is the bar of soap method. It's such a clean finish, and lovely smelling too, depending on what you use. The soap rinses out of the brush so much quicker and more thoroughly than with a liquid soap. It's cut my brush cleaning time down, which is a great bonus :-D

Great video! Keeping makeup and makeup tools clean and sanitized is extremely important.

When drying makeup brushes after cleaning, using brush guards allows you to stand the brushes upside down to dry without putting weight on the bristles. Lean them against the wall and the water drips right out the bottom and the bristles dry without becoming misshapen.

Eye/lip pencils - sharpening works pretty well, but I also wipe them with rubbing alcohol because the sharpener may not always be clean.

omg I love all the tips on this video! another tip would be to store your brushes in boxes, one for dirty brushes, one for clean brushes, that way the clean ones don't accumulate dust and the dirty ones are contained in one space :)

I do my make up brushes pretty much just like you do. Except I only submerge them in water that's about an inch deep. That way I don't have to fear the water seeping up into the ferrule while the brush is sitting in the cup. 😉

Another make up brush cleaning alternative that works great is 1 Tablespoon of vinegar to 1 cup of hot water, soak 20 minutes and then rinse with hot, then cold water.  It disinfects naturally while dissolving grease.

New to watching ur vids. I clean my brushes with baking soda and vinegar. I like the idea of using olive oil to soften the bristles. I am about to go and clean my brushes now and was looking for a tip on softening them. So thanks even though I am new to ur vids. Have an awesome night.

If you have any makeup residue stuck in your brush from gel eyeliners or lipsticks or anything like that, pour a little bit of olive oil onto a paper towel and swirl the brush in it then clean it like normal right after. The olive oil helps to break down the product making it easier to get all the gunk out.
