The Animals appealed to me in the 60's because they were edgier than most of the popular British bands. Eric Burdon is such a tremendous talent. It's particularly interesting to watch the clips from the Ed Sullivan Show. He was so young, but he already had such presence and attitude. Thanks, Fil!

what they mainly had was... Eric Burden 🙂 He was way before his time among the rest of that era

Am I the only one that ended up binge watching the Animals? Fil, Even without the video link, all of the information that you shared on the band was fascinating. Rock on!!!

I am so sorry Fil. Must be hard on you when your channel might be disrupted. Am bummed. Have learned so much from you. Cross fingers you can find work around.

A really great band, especially live. For me, Eric Burdon is all about sincerity - in his pronouncements and in his singing. Great analysis, as always, Fil. If we have to go on viewing the videos like this, it is still well worth it. Rock!

"House Of The Rising Sun" and "Spill The Wine" with War, same singer, two totally different people, both INCREDIBLE. Can't think of another example of this in modern music with lead singers. Eric has many accolades, but in some ways is still underrated.

Eric Burden...had one of the greatest voices. Also sang with War, a powerful soul blues rock voice. P.S. the video link is empty.

What I've always loved about the video and song is how confident in both appearance and sound Mr. Burdon is. He looks right into the camera, a rather scruffy looking young man, but with such compelling confidence in himself. Not worrying about his acne, but so full of brass. And the way he sings this song is equally confident. Just always loved the sound they achieved in their songs from this period.

I don't think the musicians would appreciate having their music blocked. Especially when you're trying to teach something to the listeners. You understand the music industry and what is happening. Lots of people may not know what's truly going on. Sad that they do this. Keep up the good work Fil.

The lead vocal is spectacular! And the music sounds fresh no matter how many times i have heard it. Amazing!

The powerful combination of Eric Burden's rough vocals and the "disreputable" nature of the song's topic made this quite a controversial song for 1964 American teenage radio stations. The sweet love songs of The Beatles were fine with parents, but they considered this "dangerously adult" for young ears. I was 15 when the song was released and all the guys I knew thought the song kicked ass! Girls were screaming at The Beatles but this song struck a chord with teenage boys going through hormonal transformation. Yeah, baby!

Fil,
I think your reviews are awesome !! Please never apologize for a review that you may be giving that runs a little long !! The history that you told about the Animals tonight was very interesting to listen to !! I thoroughly enjoyed this review, even though I never got to hear what you were reviewing, due to the links not working! But I am very familiar with the Animals and the song, the House of the rising sun ! So it is all GOOD !! LOVED YOUR REVIEW !!

Eric was a beast on stage!!!! So very glad I was able to see this guy sing live. He and Johnny Maestro are 2 of my favorite frontmen all time.

Loved the Animals, Eric's vocals on all their tunes was incredible.. We got to get out of this place was perhaps their best tune..

I just coincidentally watched this a few minutes ago. This song was way ahead of it's time and Eric Burden really had/has a soulful voice. The keys are eerie and awesome. Great song. I like the Frijid Pink version but it doesn't compare

As much as any other band, even American bands, the Animals were one of The Sounds of the Vietnam War. Any footage, any 40 minute B&W documentary, any movie, will have an Animals song playing in the background. They were one of THE bands of the 60's, one of THE bands of the anti war movement and one of THE sounds of the counter culture. Bigger in the USA and Europe than the UK. Eric Burden went on to become huge in France and Germany as a solo artist and leader in the 70's drug, hippy and alternative underground music scene. Some of his best music from this period too. And what a voice the man had.
