and apparently if you use that code I get some site love and so will you. Thanks for all the kind comments on this video. I've been genuinely surprised and encouraged. Maybe I'll post a vid on my experiences making coffee since I ditched my Spinn. Spoiler: My coffee has gotten waaay better.

Excellent and truthful review. I have had mine for 1.5 years and it’s a piece of junk that always requires some type of maintenance or repair. Filters are expensive, the cleaning supplies are expensive and the warranty is up and the company offered to send me a DIY kit to fix my own machine. They could do it for a fee. This coffee machine is high dollar and not worth the money.

My experience with "All-In-One" coffee machines was similar. Initially, the convenience was great and the coffee was delicious. Over time, the flavor of the coffee went off. I always performed suggested maintenance and changed water filter as instructed. Just shy of a year, it quit. I did a deep dive and discovered that the bearing for the grinder impeller had jammed due to corrosion presumably caused by condensation of steam. Further inspection of the internals revealed several colonies of robust mold. Seems the dust generated by the grinder combined with the steam from the brewer created a perfect, inaccessible biome for mold growth. Whether this was a contributing factor to the flavor decline or not, I'm not sure. Based on that discovery, I keep my grinding and brewing processes separate.

Glad I saw this before buying. Didn't think overtime the coffee quality would change.

thank you so much for this straightforward, honest review. I've been on the fence with this machine for a few months and I just fell to the side that saves me $1K. The idea of it is great, but in the end I just want good coffee.. right now I'm using the Moccamaster and the coffee is great.

excellent review, you are right, I have one for about 6 months and already having issues, its a great coffee machine, the coffee is the best, but you have to buy the filters from them, you have to buy the cleaning liquids from them and when there is an issue, they will blame it to the coffee so you have to buy coffee from them ($20 for 12oz) not only that but it takes 3 hours to clean and descale it every month or so.

Thank you! I was tempted to get one, but your comment really snapped me out of it. I am the type of person who likes to be able to fix things myself.

Thank you so much for posting this review. Here's my story:

I was drawn to it very early in the game about seven years ago, when customer shipping was "just around the corner." The early price was $300. I spent two years reading update after update, posing questions on the forum, and yet nothing concrete came out. We were told that the machine was in beta trials but no updates from the "beta testers", who were probably Rod's wife and kid. I've worked in the telecom industry and was very familiar with various certifications. When I questioned about UL certification, no answer. I asked about RF emissions - no answer. I finally asked for - and received - my 300 bucks back. And now it's available and you essentially have to subscribe for an expensive water filter replacement and pray that the machine lasts a long time.

Right after getting my refund I bought a Gaggia Baby Twin espresso machine that's brewed impeccible shots time after time. I've had to replace the brewhead gasket twice (easy as pie - unscrew the screen, pull out the old gasket with pliers, intall new one, screw the screen back on.) Of course it doesn't sound like R2-D2 when waking up to brew something at 6:30, or any of that super-duper whizzomatic stuff either. But I do get fantastic espressos several times a day.

Just what I needed to see. Thanks for the honest review. The promise something that can create a variable process into a 1-touch effort is appealing. Though the taste of coffee is subjective, I think this is over-engineered and still doesn't seem to work as intended.

I don't use the filter, i doesn't ask me to change the filter and it didn't cost $1000, but i agree the app, says you don't control your machine, i need a cup of coffee to even think in the morning, if it coughs, guess what you need to trouble shoot to get that cup. I still haven't seen spinn advertising this machine and its complex. I still like, if it stops working, the aeropress is handy.

Great review! I agree, you should never need to buy special coffee to make a great cup. Also I just hate everything that needs an app/phone to operate.

I’ve had a spin. For over 2 years now. We did send it in to get serviced once. Think of a Keurig and how nasty they get. This thing is a beast and all the little things need to be cleaned. Not just running a cleaning cycle. We did experience it suddenly getting bitter and we found sipping down the Spinn basket the upper inside helped. We also had to clean the worm gear. That gets junked up as well. But overall I don’t know what I would do without my Spinn.

FWIW, we’ve had one for years, and I totally agree with you on the filter and cleaning supply gouging, and that it can be a little quirky. It hates even moderately oily beans, and my guess yours needs the basket removed and cleaned of residual grounds from a roast it didn’t get along with. (And i definitely agree with you on the sublime nature of the Aeropress!)

All that said, I wanted to offer a counterpoint on quality. I personally don’t agree on the “bitter coffee” claim - in my own extensive experience the quality is exceptional, far better than even my Technivorm Moccamaster which many would agree is the best drip machine on the market. And the different styles of coffee it can produce are very fun to experiment and play with. Does it make god’s honest, 9 bar/130 PSI espresso? Probably not, but it’s very good and enjoyable as is everything we make with our machine, and definitely not a gimmicky device. It’s a very high quality machine in our experience. So, not trying to be contrary, just offering a counter experience as I see a lot of people posting things like “thank you for saving me $1000!” In my own experience I’d not pass it up, and doing so on the basis of one negative review may not be doing you any favors, I’d encourage people. to do more homework before making a balanced, informed decision with input from both lovers and haters. I’ll wrap up by saying we like ours enough that I pre-ordered the new model!
