I was literally just thinking about this the other day. School never taught me about finances. Kinda of ridiculous the one thing everyone needs to know about isn't taught. Highly suspicious

My high school science teacher told me, "You have a better chance of being hit by an asteroid than winning the lottery."

I have tried to add a course in schools that would include probability statistics, and I was shut down at every turn. I also wanted to name the class "Who wants to be a millionaire?"

I remember back in high shoot, many students struggled to learn basic algebra. The students who got algebra went to learn stats and trig

I say the same thing about percentages. Percentages are easy to calculate but most people don't know how. It's only taught once in the American curriculum, and it's usually in the 5th or 6th grade.
But, any debt you have to pay, the interest, is calculated in percentages. Tax debt is calculated in percentages.

The odds of winning the lottery was one of the first things we learned in statistics.

I took AP Stats, but it wasn't a required class. However our school did encourage us to take it if we were good at math.

My school definitely taught probability statistics, maybe that's why I don't play the lottery. That was in kansas, not exactly leading the charge in public education.

True: in each state where tax on lottery goes to general fund which pays for education Statistics was dropped from math Curriculum grades 9 through 12. And specifically "The Gamblers Fallacy" removed from high school mathematics texts nationwide to maintain sales.
During the same period as juricdictions moved to fines & away from jail time high school Civics classes dropped teaching Criminal Code.

My conspiracy is that they don't teach financial literacy in schools so they can take advantage of them when they're older

Edit: I see a few people saying "there's some schools that teach it!" It needs to be a national standard, like English and Math.

My high school finance teacher told us those who play the lottery usually have achieved a lower education. That told me all I needed to know.
