Thx for the great video. Since i don't mind a little bit of scratching, to me the Sharpie is the clear winner. First, it is the one that smears the least. The G2 smears a lot compared to it. Second, the Sharpie is the least expensive. I get 3 of them for under 4 Euros on Amazon. Pentels are 6 Euros for 3, G2s are almost 9 Euros and because the Zebra is stainless steel, it's 15 Euros for 3. And third, the Sharpie clearly is the best looking one in all black. That's just my 2 cents. All the best from Austria/Europe 🙂🖊👍

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've been looking into pens and everyone ever recommends the EnerGel... but I feel like they are way too inky and can be blotchy on some paper types. I'm guessing Energel is close to writing with a fountain pen but lowkey my results look like I'm writing with a fine tip marker. The Pilot G2 is more 'clean' and penlike but I guess it depends what you're looking for.

EnerGel is widely considered by pen nerds as the best gel refill available, with the Pilot G2 a close 2nd. The best thing about EnerGel refills are they fit in a bunch of other pen bodies. Find a pen that suits your grip, then stick an EnerGel refill in it and you have the perfect pen for you.

I favor the G2, as well, but find the choice of paper can make a big difference in how smoothly it writes. Generally, the better the paper, the more scratchy G2 refills below 1.0 mm feel to me. The 1.0 mm size works well on all papers.

Pentel Energel its the Best of the Best

Personally, I'm partial to Energel over the Pilot G2 (but got several of each though). That said, the only pen you missed in this shootout is the Uni 207 gel pen, which is in the same class as these pens. The Uni 207 1.0mm writes very smooth, but uses a ton of ink.

Line quality is most important. Zebra for the win. I'm currently using the black one. Best line I've encountered.

Only wish the refills weren't model specific. I'd love this refill in the Zebra F-301 Compact. I'm looking for a better daily carry. The compact would be it.

Thank you so much!

Please check smudging next time

thanks for your review... I was this close in buying sharpie; I was considering sharpie because it's non-bleed, non-smudge...

I did exactly what you did and came to the same conclusions... until I ran it against a Bic Gelocity gel pen in black, .7 ... it's richer, smoother and slightly thicker lines despite all of my test pens being .7 .... try one let me know what you think. Great video and fair comparison, by the way!!

Pilot G2 is the undisputed long time king. But even the king is not without flaws. The clip breaks off too easily. If a G2 runs out of ink and still has its clip, I save the body to repair the next G2 with a broken clip.
Every once in a while Pilot offers a more deluxe (= more expensive) G2 model. I'm currently using a $14 G2 Limited with a strong metal clip. Odd thing is that G2 refills are so expensive that buying a multi-pack of regular pens, using the refill, and throwing away the pen, is more cost-efficient than just buying the refill.
I recently tried Pentel EnerGel and Sharpie S-Gel. Both have stronger clips than Pilot G2. Pentel has a weird unacceptable ink color. Sharpie just looks and feels cheap. The retractor mechanism broke on my last Sharpie, and I put the refill into my Pentel body.
I guess I'll try the Zebra G-301 next.

I loved the pentel because it’s so smooth but I take a lot of notes in college and it started skipping after about a month.

I just bought the pilot G2 premium gel roller pens in black.

I hope it helps me with A better writing.

The Zebra black and blue are hands down the best. I think the Sharpie S_gel wins for red. All in 0.7mm.

Sharpies, I have had a few, the nib goes scratchie and ink stops dispensing. I have had to throw out sharpies that have heaps of ink because the nibs stop working.

Cool video but disappointing to not see the Signo pens represented. Absolutely my favorite pens are any uniball signo pens. Plus their ink is very permanent which I really like. You gotta try the Signo 307 especially that or the Signo DX is just the best

The best are Papermate InkJoy gel pens and the Zebra Sarasa gel pens. Superior over Pilot G2.
