the reason mojang will never add planes is the same reason they wont add guns
Also elytras are already unbalanced as fuck by the point where you can get the elytra you probably have 2843539 enchantment books and can apply unbreaking and mending within 5 seconds of getting an elytra so adding something that has literally no downsides and IS EASY TO CRAFT would ruin the entire fucking game also minecraft is supposed to be in the stone age or something so no vehicles

The "true" sky dimension is actually a would type pre1.17 and its called "floating islands" and you can even change the biomes. The reason they removed it in 1.17 (without telling anyone anything) is probably that the new world generation didnt really like the floating islands and they didnt have time to redo the floating islands but you can still update your 1.16 floating islands world to 1.18 and it will still work and it will adapt to the -64/319 min/max height (updating to 1.17 is possible)
