The absolute best place to start/continue with Zatanna is Paul Dini's 2010 run. It's only 16 issues and captures the character perfectly! It's also a nice display of some of Adam Hughes's best and most iconic covers.

One character I wanna mention is the Flash! He's the character that got me into comics, and is one that can really be used as a gateway into the DC Universe/Multiverse as a whole.

For Barry Allen, I'd say start at Crisis on Infinite Earths, then immediately go into Flash: Rebirth. Or if you just want to jump into a run for Barry, the Joshua Williamson run is phenomenal and includes Flash: Year One!

For Wally West, while I haven't read it, you can't go wrong with Mark Waid. He basically introduced all the Flash concepts that are important today. There's also the Geoff Johns run that helps you get to know Wally along with the Rogues!

Even the recent Batman runs are great jumping on points. The Scott snyder run was phenomenal.

Geoff johns flash run as well. Flash: Rebirth is a great run, same with flashpoint, although I think flashpoint would confuse a lot of new readers.

His run on new 52 Justice league is great as well,

Ed brubaker winter soldier run I found to be amazing as well. It’s collected in one trade, and part of it melds with the civil war movie in terms of former Russian super soldier program threats, but also showcases his relationship w Natasha a bit

Tim Drake's also my favorite Robin, respect.
For Superman, I personally think John Byrne's stuff is the best starting point, and I'm also partial to American Alien as that's the comic that turned me from someone who thought Superman was just boring and overpowered to someone who has a deep love and respect for the character.

Excellent choices for any new reader. As far as Batman is concerned, I'd also add in Jeph Loeb's Haunted Knight and Dark Victory. And maybe I need to re-read it, but I remember being really disappointed with the end of Ghost Rider: Road to Damnation. Still, an awesome list, James!

This is a really nice list of opinions. I couldn't help but notice that the Justice League wasn't on here. For me I started that one with the JLA run. But just like the other long running series there is so much more material out there.

Absolutely cannot go wrong with Kelly Sue's Captain Marvel run. Everything about the modern version of the character comes from this and it also has some truly incredible art in the first handful of issues

Hi, I always enjoy your videos. Someone down below noted the Flash was not mentioned. A few more I would bring up and good places to start are Shazam (Power of Shazam by Ordway) and Justice League and Justice Society. I guess for Justice League the George Perez run was great and for Justice Society (can include a bunch of heroes like Dr. Fate, etc) I'd go with Last Days of the Justice Society of America from the 1980s. And for Hawkman I'd go with the recent run by Venditti.

I love Daredevil so much, especially after watching the Netflix (now Disney+) show. I personally recommend Frank Miller’s Daredevil: Man Without Fear five-issue miniseries. It recaps the origin of DD as well as Elektra, Stick, and Kingpin. Great comic!
