NWT wildfires: Couple stays behind in town of Enterprise to try and save homes

In the Northwest Territories, there’s not much left in the town of Enterprise just north of the Alberta border. Much of the community was destroyed by flames and everyone was ordered to get out. It's not advised, but some stayed behind.

Lyne Maisonneuve and her partner Mike Kimbel defied the evacuation order and returned home. They say a crew from High Level stopped briefly to help, but with the Hamlet ablaze, the couple went to great lengths fighting back the flames all on their own.

Residents say 95 per cent of the hamlet is completely gone. They are wondering where the help and water bombers were when they needed them the most.

Despite the hardship the people in this little community have big hopes to rise from the ruins. Global’s Jayme Doll spoke to one couple who took matters into their own hands trying to save homes.

My question is if there's a Mars Water Bomber, still grounded in BC, with a crew, why isn't it being used? Maybe some Government Big Wig, didn't get his cut, to get it authorized to be on the list?

Wouldn’t you at least have taken the fire trucks and tanker with you when you left to save them? Why would fire fighters leave equipment like that to burn? Why would you leave valuable equipment to burn when there are fires in other towns as well that could use that equipment even if you couldn’t save your own town?

Its the blind leading the blind out there fighting these fires .
Everyone gets paid more, if the fire doesnt get put out .
Then it gets out of control, and this

i can relate to 'like we don't matter'. i live in the kootenays. last year wasn't that bad of a fire season but we had a fire less than a klm west of the village and one less than a klm north of the village and they just let them burn fron the first week of july till the rains came in september. breathed in a lot of smoke that summer.

The people questioning why the fire department left. The whole bloody town left! Why, because these fires are enormous! One small fire department isn’t going to be able to save an entire town that is on fire all at the same time from multiple directions! These people may look like hero’s to some of you, but these are the people who 9 times out of 10 end up needing to be rescued and in that they endanger the lives of first responders who go in to save them. These people stole a fire truck and saved their own house! They’re not hero’s, their stubborn and selfish and quite frankly they got lucky.

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. and in the morning, `Today it will be stormy, for the sky is *red* and overcast. ' You know interpret the appearance of the sky, but you *cannot* interpret the signs of the times.

If you can steal a firetruck from and a bulldozer from a bush there seems to be some odd people out there then?
