Wow! This really hit home!
I'm independent and self-made. From poverty to here-- I've worked hard to put food on the table for my family since I was 13 years old. I worked full-time while putting myself through university. I starting investing when I was 23 years old. But they've not paid off. Why? OH! I get it now!
Until this talk, I struggled with my poor investments...and poor choices.

You're so right--
* I checked the fees now and they are crazy high.
* I realized I had these underlying ideas that while I'm working hard...my mother was the bowerbird...and maybe I've been, too.
* I've been inconsistent

I agree, it is quite absurd, these differences between man and woman.
To me it is very natural though, that moms are the primary caregivers especially as the children are very young. (Just when you look at worldwide mean nursing time, given this is 3!! years- this is simply a task no man can do for us- and frankly, I wouldn`t want to miss any minute of this precious time- babies grow up too fast. I feel blessed to have spend this time with them bonding and teaching them. I love being a stay at home mom, and I don`t feel like I was placed upon this world to just give birth to my children but to help raise them to human beings that make a difference in this world. (I just like to add that, although you never mentioned you disagree with this.)
That being said, I totally agree and think your talk is very interesting, I never thought of investing this way.. aah and a money activist..: I like that! :-)
