Another Question for the Masses #truck #driving #question

This is a bad idea, I know.

The last time I asked a question here, it was about putting ice in a pan and leaving it on the stove, so the burner would stop radiating heat into the house.

Many people responded, “Just put the pan outside to cool down!”

Yes…

That really stops the burner from radiating heat.

But, live and don’t learn, that’s my motto!

This time it’s about driving.

Because I spend a lot of time staring at my windshield, I tend to have a tad of what the kids call “road rage.”(Oh, those kids.)

I really wonder whether people are clueless, or selfish.

Neither is fun to deal with, but if drivers are clueless, well, then they just don’t know better. Common sense has managed to evade them, and they use velcro shoes not because it’s simpler, but because they have no clue how to tie the laces on a normal pair of footwear.

Dumb is sad, but at least it’s forgivable.

Selfish, that’s another thing.

People who drive slow in the passing lane on purpose get me riled up like nobody’s business.

People who drive slow in the left-hand lane probably also talk during movies in the theater, because the don’t understand they’re not on their couch.

They probably litter, and smoke in no smoking areas.

The world is about them, and them alone, and may a pox be upon them.

All the above leads me to a question… in a situation where two people are a burden to others, who is the worst between them?

Give a listen to my hypothetical, and leave an answer in the comments.

(Which I know I don’t have to say. If there’s one thing the comment section has, it’s opinions.)

The driver in the right lane becomes an A-hole. But the driver in the left lane always remains the bigger A-hole. Both drivers can ease off the gas, but only the driver to the left is committing the additional offense of being in the passing lane but not passing.

No. The guy in the passing lane is still the bigger jerk. when his pass fails, the correct move is to drop back in the right lane.

I used to drive trucks, & I can unequivocally declare that the biggest asshole in these scenarios is the insurance companies that require trucking companies to restrict the speed of semi's in order to secure coverage.

Not bigger, but definitely not innocent either.

I had a story told to me by a truck driver about this exact scenario. Only he was truck driver number three about a half a mile ahead of them being constantly break checked and messed with by a little tiny car. The two truckers behind him were keeping all the other traffic from getting caught in the craziness. Those two truckers also called highway patrol…. The whole thing only lasted about half an hour and ended with the little car getting a free ride from the state police😊.

So both trucks are doing close to the speed limit, but aren't exceeding it...
Suck it up. Eventually one will move over and allow you to go flying past at greater than the legally mandated speed limit, because that's really what this is about: "how dare anyone not get out of my way immediately so I am not inconvenienced in my desire to break the law!"

My motto on the hiway is, 'lead, follow, or get the hell off the road'!

The true a$$holes are the government who make them truckers run speed restricters....

Let them trucks roll free....!!

It's called a "rolling road block".
They might do it for exactly the reason you stated here...
They often do it just to be a$$holes... call it karma for all the fuckery them little 4-wheelers back there cause on a daily basis. Lotta times those two drivers are up there just absolutely pissing themselves in laughter.
Go, stop, or gtf outa the the way. They're both the fuck heads, but the guy on the left is responsible for the event. Period. Guy on the right... so long as he doesn't speed up... has no responsibility to let the other pass. Guy on the left pulled out to pass, thinking he could, but can't... it's his pass... he's the only one responsible for doing it safely... or backing off.

I can also tell you exactly WHY he thought he could pass, and it's something most drivers now aren't taught. He came up behind the lead truck... lotsa power, lotsa pedal left. So he mashes the pedal, pulls out, and drives straight into a wall of air. It's called "drafting". There's a MASSIVE low-pressure area behind a semi trailer. In a car or pickup you can literally double your mileage by pulling up very close behind the trailer and riding just a few feet from the bumper. Semis doing this can almost triple their economy.

So doofus here slides up into the suck-zone, gets arrogant and impatient, pulls out, and gets a physics lesson in aerodynamics in about 5 seconds... but he's still thinking he has all that extra power!!!! Nope. He wasn't pushing any air. Now he is.

Welcome to truck driving boyo, now back off that go-pedal and slide back in behind and relax a while. Put an audiobook on. You'll be grateful when you stop for fuel next.

Actually, I once rented 26 ft truck and drove it from Texas to New York State. I now understand truck drivers much better.

Never heard of the second biggest Ahole. But damn you beautifully illustrated the concept.

I remember a saying "A truck driver will give up his mothers right arm before giving up a gear". LOL

As a truck driver who came from the days of real truck drivers. Today, it's seat warmers and glorified phone holders. It's mostly the guy in the slow lane. He can. And I have done this millions of times. Slow down let the guy passing you pass

Get rid of the governors on trucks and this problem will go away.

As a truck driver, I deal with this scenario multiple times aday. The problem is that trucking has higher turnover than McDonalds. They don't teach new guys defensive driving to prevent this.

Back when I was in my teens-early 20's, my friends and I used to have CBs in our cars.
Nowadays, I wish I still had one so I could tell the truckers in your story to get a room.

Why the CBs? There were 7 in our group and we'd get together on a Friday night and play hide and seek in our cars. We had a square mile boundary. One person would be designated as it. The others would go hide. I recall a couple times parking in someone's driveway to hide. That game today would get us shot. Ah, that was so much fun.

It's called elephant racing. The left lane driver should get a ticket
