This recipe is for delicious sourdough cornbread, properly fermented and baked in a cast-iron skillet. It is the perfect side dish for your summer barbecues or with a big pot of chili.
All you need is cornmeal, flour, sourdough starter, buttermilk, butter, eggs, maple syrup, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

Thank you Anya for this delicious recipe. I think putting maple syrup in cornbread would be delicious. Of course, after coming out of the oven, I would want to slather it with butter. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe.

I LOVE cornbread, and this recipe looks delicious! Just a note: baking SODA does NOT have aluminum in it. It’s sodium bicarbonate, period. Cheap Arm and Hammer brand is fine, as is even cheaper store brand. Baking POWDER is the one that has extra ingredients, and it may have aluminum, so you would look for aluminum free versions of baking POWDER.

Oh boy..Im a happy viewer. I cant wait to try this corn bread. I dont eat cornbread often because Im picky. I like it soft and subtle, not dry. Im hoping this is moist?

Hallo Anja, ich habe noch kein Maisbrot gebacken und werde es auf jeden Fall ausprobieren :-)
Verschiedene Sauerteig Brote ( mit Dinkel, Roggen, Buchweizen) backe ich regelmäßig, aber dies wird mein erstes sein, mit Maismehl. Bin gespannt....Danke für das Rezept!

PS: Was für ein Mehl hast du zum Maismehl genommen? Ist Dinkel geeignet?
