I love the way savage worlds does, edges, and hindrances. Stat allocation will make you do a double take, but it's very simple once you understand it.

I was sitting here thinking about how to make a sort of fantasy-flavoured superhero for a class in DnD. And I think a point buy system just answered my question. Subclasses would grant access to more powers. There’d be subclasses for different archetypes such as speedsters, superman-likes, hulk-likes etc

Are you my brother from another mother? Savage Worlds is my absolute favorite, my absolute go-to when I'm running games, which doesn't happen often, and my favorite to play which happens even less. And I had the most fun with Necessary Evil back in the day, because suddenly my players became ridiculously creative creating their characters. I miss it so much.

I really really like stars without number entirely because it just does Sci-fi so well it feels right in the game that some worlds aren’t gonna be as advanced after an apocalyptic event. . .

My other favourite system is the one I designed myself after watching a pen&paper rpg stream for the first time! You have three stats(basically body, spirit and social) and you have different abilities to choose from depending on what style of campaign I wanted to do... Just random and simple stuff, but it was fun

My fav is ICRPG. I reccomend it to every hardcore ttrpg playrer i know. Even if you dont play the system it has such awesome ideas to use on any d20 system.

I played this for over 6 months at the beginning of covid every day on roll 20 with whoever would want to play. Very simple system and very quick char Gen. Makes for some fun quick sessions

Honestly, I've really enjoyed the 5th edition of Legend of the Five Rings. It doesn't have the same exact resolution system that older editions had, switching to specially-labeled d6's (Ring Dice) and d12's (Skill Dice) instead of the normal d10's for determining success... but honestly, I love it. A lot of playing the system came down to only rolling dice when my DM and I were unsure whether or not my character had a guaranteed success. A lot of the time, my character was built to manipulate social situations so well that I just had to think in terms of what would be reasonable to ask and would have an inconsequential hindrance if it failed.
