The Gael played by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Bagpipes

The Last of the Mohicans is a 1992 historical epic film set in 1757 during the French and Indian War and produced by Morgan Creek Pictures. It was directed by Michael Mann and based on James Fenimore Cooper's novel of the same name and George B. Seitz's 1936 film adaptation, owing more to the latter than the novel. The film stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, and Jodhi May, with Russell Means, Wes Studi, Eric Schweig, and Steven Waddington in supporting roles.

The soundtrack features music by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, and the song "I Will Find You" by Clannad. The main theme of the film is taken from the tune "The Gael" by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean. Released on September 25, 1992, in the United States, The Last of the Mohicans was met with nearly-universal praise from critics as well as being commercially successful during its box-office run.

As an Englishman i am very fortunate to share this island with the Scots. Their culture and beautiful country are both amazing. We may have had our rivalries over the centuries but we really do Love Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇧

The first time I heard bagpipes I was just six years old, and I knew nothing about my Scots heritage. It was at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. I could hear the sound of the pipes coming, marching toward me in the distance, and I started to cry with an unknown emotion. Mind you this was an innocent and authentic reaction of a little girl. Now 65 years later they still make me cry, every time. Lately I have traced my ancestry back on my father's side; both his parents were born in Lanarkshire, Glasgow, and the family ancestors were in the same area all the way back to the early 1700's, which is as far as I have gotten. I'm hoping to make it for a visit as soon as the travel bans are lifted, if they'll let me in.

My wife and I live near when this movie was filmed. We would go and view the glory of the mountains and listen to this soundtrack. She has gone on to be with the Lord. This brings on great memories and lifts my soul. Beautiful sound.

I spent 3 years living in Scotland. Absolutely the happiest 3 years of my life. I adored everything about it. Especially the people .
Made some really great friends. 25 years on, although now back living in the South of England we still stay in touch .
I become very nostalgic when I hear the sound of the pipes.

I am part Irish and part Mohawk and this music stirs my blood! I’m proud of my heritage! Being Celtic is who I am and always will be! And my man is Greek and Scot! We plan on going to Scotland and Ireland for our honeymoon!!

The Gael may be one of the most striking pieces of music ever made, to some anyway. Just amazing.

We played this version of "The Gael" at our wedding ceremony. This was the first song that played as guests took their seats in the church and that my husband and groomsmen took their places at the altar to.
