Homelander is the environment he grew up in

"Get in the oven frank" his delivery of that line makes me chuckle lol

All the characters in the show treat homelander as a failure or quote "bad product" but the terrible shit they did to him made him into the monster they claim to be so disappointed in. He's a reflection of them. Is he horrible in practically every way? Yes, but he didn't start that way. Even the scientists who over saw everything said he was a very sweet child, that they eventually turned into an absolute monster. Homelander deep down is still that child, and he resents that side, because it brings him nothing but anguish. He has a fractured mind.

I felt bad for these people at first, until I remembered they shaped homelander into the monster he is.

“Sorry, you’re sorry, NOW?” Brilliant line

Kinda makes you understand why Homelander came out this way. He's still an asshole who has done a ton of very wrong and twisted unjustifiable things but that's what he has been dealing with his entire life, gotta learn from somewhere. So basically they're both in the wrong, Homelander for acting like this but specially Vought for treating him like this

The way he intentionally misses his shot is great writing

Homelander lost all of his humanity in this episode.
Now he is just a cold monster

The one and only time we will root for homelander

The whole message of the show is that Homelander is a symptom of what Vought was willing to do for profit. They weren't creating a human being nor did they want to, they wanted a strong weapon and then they got angry when he turned against them

This is exactly why raising children has an effect look how Superman was raised and how he turned out

Homelander alternates between cruelty and friendliness in this scene, even bringing them an ice cream cake and acting as if this was a nice gathering. The thing is, that's also a perfect mirror of how they treated him as a child. It was not all cruelty: they deliberately switched back and forth between cruelty and tenderness, in order to psychologically manipulate him. He is now returning the favour, except that the goal is not manipulation: it is revenge.

Better yet, Frank had it easy, his nerves eventually burned off so he stopped feeling the pain, Homelander's didn't, he felt the whole thing at 100% for god knows how long.

This episode felt so weird, eveb though homelander is a sadistic psychopath, at the same time he was kinda justified to do it. Its like i have no one to root for

They created that monster. The excuse was i'm just doing my job. They did not care about the fact that homelander was a human being.Let alone a little baby/ small child.

Vogelbaum got off easy with that head pop in Season 2. Stan Edgar may not be so lucky and tbh, his character deserves it for overseeing the torture and creation of a monster.

The nazi Germans parallels are great here. That line of belief “we were just doing our jobs” was exactly how most nazis managed to justify their actions. There’s something about the reasoning of “my boss made me do it” that helps a person to relieve themselves of responsibility for their own actions
