I'm glad Nikon threw this 35 out for us 35mm users. My Sigma 35 F/1.4 ART and Z6 has been my main combo for the last 4 years! I think this 35 1.4 Z lens is going to be pretty good. I don't know if it will be $600 good but I think i'll sell my Sigma ART for this one because the 1.8S is just out of my range and I ain't pixel peeping enough to really care to tell the difference between the 1.8S and the new 35 1.4 Z lens lol

The 24-120 f4 S lens lives on my camera. 90% of my work is accomplished by that lense

Great analysis. That 50 1.8s might be the best lens I have ever used. I recently switched to Nikon and got the Zf with the 50 & 40mm f2. I picked up a few G lenses to replace my most used lenses such as the 85 1.8 G and after using that 50 1.8 I shot almost all of my portraits on that lens even though it isn't my favorite focal length. The images almost have that 3D pop with them. Besides the glass though how much difference do you think the Z mount itself looks better than adapted lenses? Even my non S lenses in Z mount seem to look better than the G mount lenses.

I’m not buying any Nikon lens unless it’s an S line lens. Nikon is the only brand that I don’t cheap out on the glass.

Not every lens needs to be clinically sharp. For portraits? Hell no. Let it have some character, some imperfections, some lens flare. F1.4 cheaper than an f1.8? Yes please!

I'm waiting on email from canon right now saying my 35 f1.4 has shipped. The other party focal length got me @nd guessing my commitment to Canon. LOL

I'll add this to my line up of 35mm lenses making it my 5th 35mm lens. I have the nikon 35mm 1.8 but you can never have enough 35mm lenses.

Nikon launched the Z line with some great S-Line f4 lens, the 14-30 and 24-70 are fantastic lens for being f4 and paired well with the Z6/7 line. They seem to now be filling out the line of less expensive lens which is great for those starting out and want to have great performing lens that are not expensive. I have the 17-28 2.8 and 24-140 f4 and use the f4 more for filming my talking head videos as I set it at 35 or 50, also shooting in Nlog also allows me to do some adjustments if it's too dark to keep things looking good.

Nikon 35mm f1.8S have more clinical sharp look with great coatings.
Nikon 35mm f1.4Z will be little bit less sharp, little bit less contrasty, but will have wider aperture, and I hope it will be great for wedding photographers(I'm one of them :) )
