Is Your Background TOO BLURRY? Best Aperture & Focal Length Confirmed

I have debated this back and forth, what is the perfect focal length for filming yourself? You want a wide angle lens outdoors, but too wide is just freaky. If you're too tight, it's just your head and that's even worse. For filming yourself at home, the wide angle lens might not be so great due to distortion, but it's so convenient to see the screen so close and you could even have a shotgun mic on the camera. But a longer focal length will look more professional and cinematic, but then you're at the mercy of your camera's autofocus.

We'll also talk about what the best aperture is for vlogging outside. You want to show some background, but you also want some subject separation. Too blurry of a background with Toneh and Bokeh fighting each other is over the top. Plus it makes your lens unnecessarily heavy. What is the best vlogging lens of the future? I'm leaning 18-20mm f2.8 or even f4, for the ultimate light weight vlogging setup that still gives you a professional cinematic look. It would also be budget too.

Today we're on the Panasonic S1 with Viltrox 20mm f2. It's heavy as heck.

If you buy any of these through my affiliate links, you get a free miniature unicorn genie that grants you 3 wishes. They may or may not come true.
T2.8 primes are the future? I think T4 wasn't enough Toneh for those moments that we need to be beautiful. Ain't nobody buying T4 primes.

Order of Importance- Audio, Stabilisation, Toneh, Speed of Squirrel, Leg Length and colour of Banana. Proven by Science.

20mm f4 seems like the sweet spot, enough separation, easier to keep focus, able to make out the background.

Toneh is the last thing I think about. For vlogging it's good that people can see a little bit of whats going on around - esp if it's travel vlog. So 4-22 is good 👍🏻

This lens makes you appear cinematically buff and hard-edged, like a down on his luck mercenary in a third-world village.

I like Toneh 4-5.6. Toneh 2.0 was to blurry and I felt forced to constantly look at you and not see whats in the background. Also nice video colours

I really liked Toneh 4 20mm on fullframe.

If the external world looks like it's in witness protection, you've gone too far

Too much Toneh makes the video image look like you enabled the "Background Vaseline Mode". I vote for Toneh 4.0

The 8-18 or 12mm 1.4 on the G9 is the best compromise... But its still a compromise for now.

Everything hangs on how effective Canon's IBIS on the R5 /R6 turns out to be.
Stick an old little EF 20mm 2.8 on that with their EF/RF adapter with Variable ND filter, and it's potentially a done deal.

I think 3.2 would be the sweet Spot. Not even Sure anymore if that apertute exists 😅

I toneh myself at 300mm/f2.8546 on the Oly em5II MFT. I also cover the front end of the lens with bubble wrap and myself in cellophane. My vlogs are therefore unidentifiable but unique, as I apply the same treatment to my microphones. Few videographers understand that toneh and bokeh and chelseh also apply to audio.

I like to see the background looking at a fuzzy background for more than 5 minutes is very distracting stay with the good background I love to see the area you are filming in and all its happenings.

F3.1 is your sweet spot. Establish a lens company and make one. You'll be richer than you could ever imagine as no one else makes F3.1 primes.
