I grew up in the christadelphian faith with this annihilist understanding and was shocked to learn about eternal torment. I learned the translation of hell often just meant grave. Death is the ultimate punishment - The lack of knowledge of God and Christ. I’m glad to hear that others are exploring this as well because it really just makes more sense based on our understanding of who God is.

I stumbled upon the concept of conditional immortality without having a name for it when I was heavily studying Scripture & then praying for about an hour or more a day for a couple of years. I started seeing Christs words as very literal. Words like “perish” and “kill the body and the soul” meant just that. I stopped unconsciously interpreting those words in my head and just read them plainly. I wasn’t presented with these ideas and I attend a traditional Conservative church (still do) it just became clear as I studied Scripture alone. I am not a firm believer in either view at this point, I can see it either way, but I heavily tend towards quietly believing in conditional immortality because I see far more evidence in Scripture for this view. Ultimately we need to be at peace trusting that God is just and He doesn’t need our input or opinion on what should happen after death. I am very at peace trusting God knows what He’s doing

I am in a very dark place here on earth, I have had a combination of head injuries, near drownings, cerebral malaria, acid in eyes, drug misuse. I believe in Jesus and have been praying. I am in a lot of physical and emotional pain and spend a lot of time in my bed due to this. I hope my soul is spared, I have lived a poor life and would love to know how to heal. Please pray for me

Excellent discussion! It's a good model of how brothers in Christ who disagree on some secondary (but still important) point of doctrine can still work together peacefully for the sake of the Gospel and building up the Church.

there are unknown number of unknown soldiers of the Cross of Christ all throughout the ages who were, are and willing to discuss these biblical doctrinal issues or topics in a pure, sincere love for truth and humility and endeavors to keep the unity of the body of Christ...His Truth is marching on!! God bless the church

I love it scripture over tradition. Chris is someone who has studied this topic for a thousands of hours and it's interesting to hear the rejection by those who have probably only looked at this very superficially but I've heard it over and over again from the pulpit from pastors who have about three to five hours of training on this topic during seminary.

How interesting, well explained and full of grace this discussion is! And to highlight the importance of faith in Christ as you did 👏 Glory to God!

When I studied the topic on my own just to see why I believed hell was eternal, I came to find out it isn't and the issue of eternal hell actually leaves a lot of loopholes open about the nature of men since Adam & Eve. The key thing here is the concept of immortality. If the wicked resurrect being already immortal, then they've either always been immortal which means 1 Timothy 6:16 (God alone possesses immortality) is wrong or Romans 2:7 (eternal life is given to the ones who seek immortality) is wrong. How could I seek immortality if I am already immortal?

Nice! We need more freedom to talk about this.

This is an older interview with Chris. He is the reason I now believe in conditional immortality. I reject his Calvinist views but we completely agree on what Gods final judgement will look like for the unredeemed. The literal second death of the entire unsaved individual. Both body and soul as it says in the book of Matthew.

I used to be a believer in eternal conscious torment. After realizing that the idea of an eternal fiery hell was found in the intertestamental books and not the Old Testament I began to have serious doubts. It seems that the authors of the Apocrypha were influenced by the Greek idea of a fiery hell and adapted it to their writings.

It seems that as time goes on some try to sanitize the scriptures as much as possible to make consequences not as severe to make Christianity “palatable” to the modern culture even at the risk of heresy. Glory to the King of all kings Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.

In deuteronomy in the blessing and curses God never mentions hell. God says they will be destroyed

I like the convo, but my question is this; if Hell isn’t eternal, and the punishment ends one day (judgment), then what is there really to be afraid of? Coming from a Christian perspective on this, God says what He means. If he said it’s fire and brimstone, that’s what it is. If He says it’s eternal, then it is. If there’s no fear of eternal punishment in hell, why worry about going there?

Chris is EPIC. He is the greatest living articulator of conditionalism.
