to correct the position of the pivot point of an object, all you have to do is select a few symmetrical polygons to be visible and then press the button set pivot from the transform menu.

u didn't explain how u got rid of the other polygons before setting the pivot point. that's an important step

It moves the object too so it doesnt work

This unluckily moves mesh and not pivot point

Went looking for a means of setting mesh pivot on export so I don't have to do it in Maya.
Came across this instead. You have no idea how many times I've had this happen despite using symmetry the entire time. Next time it happens, I'll know what to do. Thanks!

Neat trick!!! especially for pieces that have a specific position and you need it to snap back with clear pivot!

Doesn't work if you work with symmetry and point you want to focus on isn't in the middle of the axis you mirror
