Sad to see Olympus and Nikon, two old and venerable companies, go out of business when they were at the top of their game. Olympus for example invented mirrorless cameras and IBIS that everyone else copied.

When I worked for ABC (American Broadcasting Co.) in the 70s, the state of the art for video cameras—that is, what the folks who could afford the best at whatever cost bought—was Ikegami cameras fitted with Canon zoom lenses. That’s what covered top rated network shows and NFL Monday night football.

It’s the same old story. Nobody thought RCA (which practically invented color television, and whose cameras were in every American TV station) would ever go out of business.

So, in addition to being VERY late as far as video is concerned, when considering if Nikon will ever get out of the camera business, just remember RCA.

Too bad. I own three Nikon DSLRs. Wouldn’t part with any of them. I guess we will see.

Sony and Canon did their job well. a lot of money was invested in advertising and Youtubers and in the same breath you only hear bad news about Nikon. this is a downward spiral that can only be broken with a real hammer. So please Nikon, if you have a professional mirrorless camera up your sleeve, please publish it

Nikon did this to themselves and I'm a nikon shooter. They shouldn't have released behind the curve mirrorless cameras that don't take F-mount glass.

My Nikon D90 served me well for over 12 years and is still very much alive.

Made the switch to Fujifilm just a few months ago.

I will cherish my little Nikon kit even more now. It consists of a D3 and a three AF-D lenses: 35mm, 50mm, and a 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom. This gear will never be sold by me.

So then what's the plan here? Are you suggesting that we continue to buy Nikon stuff to support them and hopefully pull them out from the trash? Or are you wanting everyone to give up on Nikon and move to another camera brand? If so, there's only really 2 other alternatives for FF and that's Sony or Canon? What would you recommend? Sony A7iii or Canon EOS R? Should people buy into another camera ecosystem for FF or stay with Nikon?

If Nikon falls like Olympus it will be bad news for every other company. It means the whole sector is weak and more will follow. Let's hope they stay strong. I don't take any pleasure seeing all these beloved companies go down.

I would say that the entire camera industry is in Dire Straits. In the last 10 years, camera sales are down 87%. This is primarily due to the cell phone. As they say, the best camera is the one with you. It'll be interesting to see what happens. This is one of the reasons why Nikon production is being relocated to Thailand because of labor laws in Japan. FWIW, I don't think you just hate on Nikon, I've seen you hate on all of the Camera companies.
