It should be said that "false edge" cuts can allow you to attack from angles that a single-edged sword can't, but false-edge cuts are also a little counter-intuitive, and a fair bit harder to successfully execute.

Also, most double-edged swords are straight, rather than curved like single-edged swords, making them noticeably longer than single-edged swords of the same general weight class, which gives their thrust attacks more reach.

As someone who has done countless cut and thrust combinations (just search my name and cut and thrust) and that definitely holds true. Can thrust no problem with a single edged sword, however, a double edged sword is indeed much better on the thrust. You are absolutely correct dude.

Other than the fact that having double edge makes a center point for thrusting, the biggest benefit of having double edge on a sword is to perform a false edge cut and not worry if you are holding the sword the right edge or not

I'd say that's more side effect than intent. The intent is to give you more cutting options.

From a mechanical standpoint it does make a fair bit of sense. Swords are designed for soft targets, but hard armor they're screwed so in a sense a piercing component is crucial if you wanted a chance.

No. The biggest advantage to a double edged blade is being able to attack on the backswing without changing hand position. Being able to swing in both directions with less work. SWOOOORDS👏 👏 Equally as good. Actually a single blade stab is usually more vicious and jagged because the blunted side tears instead of cuts. Leaving a more bloody raged wound that would hurt more.

also, if your sword has a lot of damage on one side, flip her over and sharpen the other!

Flip it around and use the other side, I always thought that would be the best part of it. As far as the thrust goes, I have an arming sword (it's steel but blunt) and half handing it would definitely shatter any rib in an opponent. Also, one could consider bonking with the hilt but I don't know if it can smash through a helm.

Huh wasn't even considering that I thought it was the fact that was too cutting edges if one was getting dull in battle you could just switch to the other very easily
