always have great videos. very well executed don't wanna sound OCD but what is the reason for the second newel post on landing could a mitred handrail like the left hand side look better and the half newel and nosing junction could possibly be coped instead of a bevel-off cut on half newel...but overall very neat job well done del

Very helpful video! I recently had to send back an engineered oak banister to a local supplier due to poor quality, so am super reluctant to order again elsewhere. Who is the supplier you use, if you don't mind sharing?

Any ideas how to fit a handrail to a half newel already fitted to a wall and been freshly plastered so can’t replace 🥲 debating glue and countersink screw through the under side maybe

Looks well that mate, just wondering could you of done away with the second newel post and doa mitred detail for the handrail like the other side, that way the half newel wouldn't need to overhang the edge of the wall.

Del, I woke this morning, not feeling at all well. Your enthusiasm and detail made me feel much better... Thanks. When I have railed up a stairway and left "gaps for the decorator" I have been moaned at... but as a decorator myself, I too, look for these things which make the final product stand out from the crowd. My pet hate were the carpenters who would leave nails proud and mitres on architraves not "meeting" with the comment "leave that for the decorator". You can see why I gave new work and site work a body swerve in latter years. Cheers, Bob.

Thanks for explaining about the stud behind the post. I wondered why you were able to drive a screw straight in without plugs etc.

Great job Del. Agree 100% about the newel- wouldn’t look that great coming down the wall.😊

Lovely job as usual Del! I’d have done the same with that half newel, much better than running it down and having a fussy piece at ceiling level. 👍🏼

A daily jobbing carpenter at work is as much about making the best compromises to deal with problems as they present themselves as in this video with newel length and levels. The expertise displayed is amazing. Thanks for sharing.... If I was only half as good I'd think I was brilliant👏

Great video Del lovely work 👏 maybe if the half newel run about a third down the plastered apron and the oak capping run into the half newel 🤔5 bars of juicy 18v 🤣🤣 you crack me up 👍
