For 22 version, the command is sudo tasksel install desktop. Try this if you are having issues.

Many thanks that you recorded this video on this particular topic, as I ended up purchasing a standalone copy of Parallels earlier today as it was on sale and was surprised (although I probably should have known better) that on an Apple Silicon Mac that it only supports ARM-based VMs.

This video has been very educational with regards to what I need to do to get Ubuntu running as a VM in Parallels, I'm looking forward to giving it a try later tonight. Thank you!

It was a lifesaver, thank you very much! Also want to share my experience. Mine was started with 4 CPU cores only, don't know why. I had to switch it from default to 8 at the advanced system preferences at UTM. Maybe it will help to someone who will facing similar issues. Happened on 2020 M1 MacBook Pro 13 inch.

Didn't know I had to eject dvd when it asked to reboot to complete installation. Thanks man. Your video really helped. I was trying to install Kali linux so it was the exact same process and it worked

Rad instructional tutorial! I was having many problems with trying to load the tasksels. Nothing would work until I did the sudo update then ran the tasksels install. Worked like a champ. Then the install for the Desktop GUI kept failing. It took 2 VM reboots and several tries before the desktop experience finally loaded. Thanks!

in case 'ubuntu-desktop' for install does not work, try 'ubuntu desktop' should work just fine

@TechHut glad i found this video, you have just earned a new sub. I was having lots of errors trying to use docker on M1, so decided to go the VM route. and UTM is just smooth on M1.
