It Felt like the author wanted their cake (Light beating L) but wanted to eat it too (not having their villain protagonist win.) by introducing near and mello.

I would’ve preferred It if the arcs got extended up to the end of the Yotsuba arc, then a brief time skip showing lights new world, then this ending.

If we assume he dies continuously every 60 seconds, just like how the death note worked in the human realm, it would take about 2, 082 hours= 87 days= 2.89 months. Because he’s already “dead” he doesnt need to eat/sleep so it’s entirely plausible he can search/make it to the shinigami king in time.
