I got the same message most as most of you: "...can't be applied to desktop". After several days of pulling out what's left of my hair, I happened upon the solution on the microsoft website. Right click on the desktop. Left click personalize. Click themes. Scroll to bottom. Click on one of the windows built-in themes. This shuts off high contrast and sets the colors to windows default.

To get more color options, you'll need to use the control panel. But they hid that.
You can access the page directly by inserting a shell CLSID into the "Run" dialog, then hit enter.

The last think I looked at was this video which unfortunately is updated but the Turn off High Contrast is easier to find but just for kicks I turned it on to see what options it would have. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, the color options in High Contrast remind me of a time I was working with a programmer who was Color Blind. Now nothing against people who are color blind mind you but when they pick color schemes what may look to them like nice shades of gray, those will appear to someone who is not color blind as completely gaudy choices that do not blend well at all. It will look very garish indeed. And so do the High Contrast choices Microsoft has in store for you and for me! It's just incredible they could be so well - color blind to what they have done!

pls help me . i turned off high contrast but its still turned on in my windows search. whatever i type is in white. none does not appear in the contrast settings .

my windows 10 pro doesnt have the option '' none '' and whenever i restart the pc the theme and background goes completely high contrast its really disturbing at this point
