We live in an age of protest. On campuses, in public squares, on streets and social media, protestors around the world are challenging the status quo. But while protest is often necessary, is it sufficient? Eric Liu outlines three strategies for peacefully turning awareness into action and protest into durable political power.

4:11 this is most important lesson of this video. Change will not come in a day. It will take years to see a change worth mentioning. But, we must keep fighting.

How do I protest against my teacher for no homework

I agree with most all of the protest examples given, and you touched on one way in which protests can fall to militants. Would be interested to learn about other failed protests and why they failed.

Protests are very important in our society, because without people showing that they truly care, nothing will get done. People have to show their willingness to fight for what they want.

0.20 : "it can force out Tyrants " add to this "It can bring  the Tyrants to power".

It is possible. Do not lose hope people. We Koreans did it recently with our President, even though we thought it was impossible. Keep on fighting peacefully and one day it can happen! Do not give up!

Funny how when Ted-Ed promotes clear, rational thinking, people say that they are just promoting Left wing agendas. Shows how backward the right really is.

This might only work in countries like the US. But in countries decimated by the US and/or western imperialism in general, a protest or a vote can only do so much and are not the only solutions for change. To be able to get rid of the damage and exploitation of western imperialism in these countries, a revolution must be formed and armed struggle is necessary.

Change could only be achieved if power and control is given back and remains solely to the masses.

You have to answer the "what's in it for me" question. Everyone is looking out for themselves not others.

This video will receive massive backlash, I tell you. It's good for those living under authoritarian and oppressive governments, but isn't so well-fit in modern-day western world. Good video, though.

I think the most important part here is that first one, "what is possible" and who defines what is and isn't possible.. I believe that we're too easily and far too quickly giving away all of that power to people who we're all led to believe are quote on quote "Experts" on this and the reigning authority on this.

Both enlightening and so within the box, of political polarization, one HUGE obstacle in itself. Is winning a vote a desired result? Not any longer, the US elections show that the choice offered might be a problem as well.
