The Homework Guy Team publishes videos to help Car Buyers. Then we added Cash Buyer Negotiations, and Held Hostage at a Car Dealership, No Haggle One Price Car Dealerships, How Much do Used Car Dealers Pay for Cars?, 10 Things You Should Not Say to Car dealerships, How Much do New Car Dealers Pay for Cars? Car Salesman Tricks you into Buying a Car, and the Costco Auto Program. We hit all the topics, and we represent Car Buyers, a mission that’s often in direct conflict with Car Dealer goals.

A CAR DEALER WANTS TO:
1. SELL every car for the Highest Possible Price.
2. CONVINCE Car Buyers to use Dealer affiliated Lenders / Banks.
3. LOAD every Car Deal full of Fees and Finance Products.
4. OFFER Lowball numbers on every Trade Vehicle.

THE HOMEWORK GUY TEAM (THG) HELPS CAR BUYERS TO:
1. BUY a Car from Dealers or Private Party Sellers at the Lowest Price.
2. PAY Cash or Finance with their own Bank or Credit Union.
3. DECLINE Dealer Fees and Finance Products.
4. TRADE / SELL their current vehicle for the Best Value.

For more than 40 years, dealerships have EARNED their lowly reputation by being the masters of predatory selling. Dealers stalk victims relentlessly, often ruthlessly treating the most vulnerable car buyers (like seniors, for example) with little or no conscience. Car Dealers and their Finance Officers have no problem creating financial devastation for their customers with over bloated car loans, and quite often do. While the business has had record setting profits, Dealers never stop telling Car Buyers “We’re losing money!” We point out the traps and the flaws of the process, and help car buyers get by all the nonsense without being ripped off. We promote fairness, honesty, and transparency, and we’d love to see a few dealers join our mission!

The Homework Guy Team provides car buying consumers with information, automotive news and updates, industry outlook, buying and selling advice, and other help to level the tables. The public face of THG is Kevin Hunter and the master negotiator, Amazing Elizabeth. Tons of time and research goes into every show, with several projects always on the table, all with the goal of getting it exactly right. From Automotive News Updates to vehicle shopping advice and assistance, The Homework Guy Team is the best there is.

We wanted to pay cash for an ATV, 19k total, and they were stunned. It’s like they couldn’t fathom it. They said no it had to be financed for at least a month (just so they could get all the fees). We walked. They called the next day and changed their tune.

Another bit of advice, when you do finance a car and then come back to pay it off early.. make sure to stipulate that the payment is 100% towards the principal owed and not towards any interest that "will" be owed..

I bought my new Tacoma back in February at MSRP and paid 70% down, and financed the rest through my credit union at 2.1% interest. I didn't tell the salesman how I planned to pay until after I heard their In house finance offer (5% interest lol) and respectfully declined. The Homework guy is very correct when he says don't say you're paying cash early in the negotiation process. Be advised that financing through your own bank or credit union(not the dealer) is just as bad as paying cash if you let them know too early in the negotiations.

Bought a new 61 Impala, price started at $3500:00, worked it down to $2750:00 out the door, wrote a check, should have seen and heard the clamoring.

I'm glad to see that you're no longer wearing a nasal cannula for supplemental O2 and you're getting closer to being 100%. I'm hope you've been able to ditch the O2 concentrator or tank permanently as treatment from your recent health issue. I have severe asthma (ABPA) with COPD (bronchiectasis). I feel for you being stuck with a nasal cannula and having an O2 concentrator or tank attached to you as part of your recovery as I've been there myself more times than I care to remember. Getting discharged from supplemental O2 is a major milestone of recovery when dealing with a respiratory health issue.

Take care of yourself and continue to be a consumer advocate and advisor on how to be properly armed so we get the best value for our money when buying vehicles especially during these difficult times and high vehicle prices. You, sir, rock and please keep on rocking helping us with our homework on buying vehicles.

Please give my regards to Liz. You two make a wonderful team. I'd look into a remote way to join in on snow days. She just adds to the information you're providing.

Stay safe, healthy and keep on rocking.

Great incite to this crazy car market. I have to share my experiences thanks to Kevin's advice over the past few years (and why I'm a regular watching this channel). I'm a cash-buyer. In 2021 prior to the shortages, I picked up a 2011 F150 from a dealership lot. After the test drive, I began the negotiations. They said they wouldn't budge on price and I had to be credit checked before buying. The salesman went on to say, the guy who was going to get this had his credit fall through and he didn't want to waste time. I reminded him, "I'm not that guy... I'm the guy who's going to take that truck off his lot today!" My offer lowered the price of the vehicle $1000 below the lowest price I could find for a truck with the same options, within 100 miles from my home.

I told him it would be his fastest and easiest transaction ever. I got push-back on the offer, but eventually he agreed. He then said, "ok lets go to finance." I asked if he would right down the total offer on the sales sheet before going into finance. He agreed and produced the official price on the sales document. I then walked into the finance office and they started their whole spheele on up-charges and warranties. I asked, "Can we skip to the bottom line please? What is may all-in price?". The finance guy told me the price, then asked me what I needed my payments to be. I said, "Let me call my bank and have a cashiers check printed. I'll be right back." The finance guy was shocked when I stood up and headed to my car. I drove to the local branch, where the teller handed me the check. I returned in less than 10 minutes. Within 1 hour, I had completed the transaction. Oh, and they had to fill the 36 gallon fuel tank as part of the negotiations.

Pretty sure they won't be letting me back in there showroom again anytime soon. That's okay, they were over 80 miles from my house and I probably won't be returning again. I got the nicest F150 Lariat with every option I wanted, the perfect colors, and the lowest price I could find anywhere. The goal is to make it last for the next 10 years :)

I was the sales manager of a large BMW dealer, we would never accept personal bank checks, or cashiers checks, to easy forge. Personal check were fine.

I've been to a few dealerships in the area and most if not all either ask how you are paying for the car or they run your credit scores with all the jacked up prices added to the deal. I remember also there was a car dealership that wouldn't take a personal check, they wanted a cashiers check or bank check only, wouldn't even take cash for a 3, 000 vehicle.

I allowed a dealer to finance me on an expensive vehicle. My plan was to move my loan to a credit union I use. When I finally got my online access to my loan established, I noticed the bank took credit card payments without any additional fees. Over the next 2 weeks I paid off the loan with my credit card as the bank limited my amount of payment per day. All said and done I got my loan moved and 2% cash back from my credit card. I don't know if the dealer's bank would ever finance me again, but they lost money on my loan.
