Mike was an international rugby player before his marriage. He also is a very accomplished speaker and is involved with charities. He came into the RF as a complete, fulfilled individual who had represented his country and who didn't need to be photographed or written about to feel comfortable in his own skin. He didn't need the RF to define him or prop him up.

Her behaviour with hugs, lip gloss, etc these are clearly manipulation tactics to overstep boundaries, and like a dog marking territory, Meg was attempting to mark territory insinuating she was of EQUAL standing as the other's. She was pressing a role of being normal and close, too intimate, without respect for others. This was intentional as a direct response to the fact she was insecure amd was of lesser status joining a royal family. Her brash behaviour is actually ABUSIVE.

Mike Tindall gets along Princess Anne and her husband. He gets along with the prince and princess of Wales and their children. I understand he gets along with the king and queen. I have never heard him say a single thing critical of family in public. Just a few of the ways he has behaved differently than Miss Markle.

Jack and Edo haven't appeared to find marrying into the family particularly onerous, either, and they have the disadvantage of having the Duke and Duchess of York as their parents in-law. Then, of course, there's Catherine, another non-royal who married into the family. She has always appeared to thrive in the family, and her position is MUCH more onerous than being wife to the (at the time) sixth in line.
I wish I could tell MM that hugging isn't just objectionable to "Brits." I'm an Amerian, born and raised, and I HATE hugging. I don't even hug my close relatives. If someone I didn't even know came at me with arms outstretched, I'd recoil, too. A handshake is fine, thanks.
Also, I'm 55 years old and I've NEVER borrowed ANY makeup from someone else, let alone lip gloss. That's nasty.

Is it the hugging or the disrespect for boundaries that threw W & K off? In my experience, manipulative people often cross personal space boundaries to get an upper hand in an interaction.

M has a pattern of shaming those who push back against her attempts to gain that control.
