You never really hear people use the soprano sax’s middle range, but it’s beautiful.

When your vibrato is so wide every note longer than a quarter needs a trill notation.

I had the pleasure to talk with him for almost 1h in Berlin in September!!!!

Olivier Franc is the main guy in France (probably the whole world) that plays Sidney Bechet's style and music and in a way I'm the one in Spain!! (as the leader and Soprano Sax player of Tropical Moon Jazz Band).

He was so humble and kind with his words and my playing!!! I was so inspired by him he even invited me someday to Paris.

Since he was so kind with me, I'll share the three main lessons I learned from him.

1. Bechet always blew the horn while almost growling with his throat, as if you were doing the german "Ich" sound while playing.
2. Bechet practiced for almost 4h everyday and 20 minutes were dedicated to tonguing Ravel's "Bolero" in almost every note in the soprano!!!;
3. Bechet was obsessed with rhythm and to grasp it you must know his solos in Ain't gonna give nobody none of my jelly roll (which by chance I already knew) and Muskrat ramble (work in progress).

MUCH LOVE TO OLIVIER FRANC AND ALL THE BECHET LOVERS WORLDWIDE!!

P.D.: The best part of this solo happens just after it was cut!! What a pity!!! Nevertheless, great transcription as always!

Not four seconds into the solo and my wife exclaims "But, it's WINTER!"

haven't seen a ton of sheet music but this concert has two videos with what has got to be rare....a "splat" and "growl"....respect

There are so many great solos from this performance in Marciac. You gotta transcribe Wynton’s breaks during “Cake Walking Babies Gone Home”

That tone is so clean and squeaky I can use it as a mirror.
Literally Sidney Bechet reborn

I love the solo, but love also how Winton listen to this, like a kid who is listening to a grandpa who is telling a story to a fireplace

Stanky on alto or tenor is one thing but stanky on soprano is crazy. I played all three in high school and could never imagine getting a sound like that out of a soprano. And to get the nod of approval from Wynton makes it even cooler.

It was a rainy night in the dirty city. My coffee mug was as empty as my bank account: crime doesn't pay, but fighting it wasn't paying much either. The newspapers were dry and stale like last week's bagel. Just as I was about to call it a night, SHE showed up in my office doorway. Somehow, I knew the night was just beginning. Why do the important cases call late at night....
