how nostalgic can you play

Transcription of the clarinet and tenor sax solos on Blue and Sentimental by Count Basie, as played by the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble at Essentially Ellington 2022. I just recently heard this recording, and both these solos are incredible. I seriously feel nostalgic about them despite having heard them very few times. I hope you enjoy the video!

Soloists:
Sean McCoy (Clarinet)
Zeb Jewell-Alibhai (Tenor Sax)

Lol that's me on tenor. Pretty sure that's the first time anyone's transcribed me.

I too love the fallout series.

Jokes aside, the tone on the clarinet and tenor sax is fucking IMMACULATE

damn the clarinet solo was awesome. He was a little embarrassed by the split tone at the end but had no need to be. It gave it character

Holy shit this guy listens to Johnny Hodges, and you can tell in more ways than just the bending.

It's a real pleasure to see all these young people rethinking the music of the 'old' ones. With good taste and sensitivity. The clarinet sounds sometimes like PW Russell in the high notes and the tenor solo is of a very high level. We are on the right track with this new generation who not only know the 'tradition' but are also able and aware to bring new things.
Congratulations to all of you.😀

The clarinet. Holy shit. Like wow. That was probably one of the best jazz clarinet performances I’ve ever heard.

This is beautiful to me. I don't feel it like nostalgic, I only feel a soft sense of love and cuteness between a special person.

Tenor sounds straight out of the Harry James band. Killed it!

whoooo, i love the clarinet player. wicked tone, i hope i have the opportunity to play jazz clarinet this year in high school. we did a late 40s style musical and i was playing for the pit, it was my first real exposure to playing jazz, it was the most fun ive ever had playing clarinet easily.
