A low cut nut is more rare, because it’s a more obvious problem that tends to get fixed. But there’s a reason why your guitar nut might be high, which is usually more subtle. The manufacturer might have assumed your guitar store would custom cut it to the player’s preference. If the store just sold it as is…the guitar has lived its life with this problem. But some guitars come from the factory beautifully set-up…it depends.

I’m a fan of players learning how to adjust their own guitar. The basic tools cost less than a few professional set-ups. Actually files to cut the nut are one of the more expensive tools - meaning some might argue they aren’t “basic”. Cutting a nut lower needs to be accurate, and you need to make sure you back angle the cut. I’ll do a new video about that…follow for more.
