I just installed a new nut. When I got it close, I used a very good tuner to check the first 3:11 fret note to cut it to completion .

I go with barely any space when doing the hold down test. Space you can't see. As long as you hear a plink while holding down tne string between the 2nd and 3 frets, you're good. Thats small space is basically 002-005. All I need. Unless its actually sitting on the fret, imo it's not too low. Slide a piece of notebook paper under it and should have some resistance, but fit

is it bad my strings are pretty much hitting the fret but i have no buzz when its stung open its also very easy to play but i also dont have a heavy attack.

Confusing. Why specify it has to be 4/64 to 5/64 at the 12th fret while aiming at .018" if you are holding at the 3rd fret. If you are holding at the 3rd fret, height at the 12th fret plays no role.
