Fringemas Day 11. Mucha Lucha was a show I watched quite a bit back in the day mixed in with a bunch of other popular shows like Yu-Gi-Oh, Ozzy & Drix and some many others. So today let's take a look at Mucha Lucha, what it was and what happened to it.

Thanks so much for watching! Which character from the show was your favorite?

For being a non-mexican made show, it did really well here in mexico, and we love it : )

Mucha Lucha and El Tigre have never left my head from the theme songs to the quotable things the characters say and the humor. Top 10 favorite shows

Despite being Flash, Mucha Lucha always seemed to have an extra spark of life that most flash animations could never hope to match. That said, this might just be the nostalgia talking.

Even though Mucha Lucha only lasted 3 seasons and a tv movie, it had a good run for it's time!

I remember watching this show, but for the longest time I thought it was a fever dream. Snow pea best character.

Fun fact: Nacho Libre is based (EXTREMELY LOOSELY) on Fray tormenta, a priest who was an "undercover" luchador. He did it to raise money for the orphanage he opened, and I just find that really neat. :)

As a Mexican American from Southern California, this show was the first representation of my culture in a cartoon. Plus the Spanish dub is fantastic

One thing to definitely appreciate about the series is the voice cast, being one of the few shows to use a fairly solid mix of American and Canadian voice actors. For the main trio, Rikochet was voiced by Carlos Alazraqui for seasons 1-2 and Jason Marsden for season 3, Buena Girl was voiced by Kimberly Brooks, and the Flea was voiced by Candi Milo. Some of the supporting characters were voiced by Terry Klassen (who I think voiced Rikochet's grandfather) and Tabitha St. Germain (the voice of Penny Plutonium). Collette Sunderman (the show's voice director) must have had a field day directing actors from two different countries.

Every show you've done for Fringemas I loved as a kid! And you also got me back into some shows like Xiaolin Showdown and Chowder! You're on a roll, Jordan, keep up the great work bro!

Absolutely! Mucha Lucha, El Tigre, and The Brothers Garcia live in my head rent free. Seeing representation of my culture on tv as a kid really meant a lot to me. 💗

As someone who is a major wrestling fan, i rewatched this whole show plus the movie with friends and while it isn’t a great show by any means, it was a fun watch and I didn’t feel like I wasted my time watching it.

They had references to real wrestlers like Rey Mysterio (the wrestler wasn’t called Rey Mysterio, but it was an obvious reference) and even got the real life Blue Demon Jr to voice himself in the final episode. Also had a lot of wrestling terms that made wrestling fans like me like “ahhh! They mentioned that! They mentioned that”! You can tell it was written by people who love wrestling and that was my favorite part about it.

4:33 You just mentioned my most nostalgic cartoon shows ever: Time Squad and Lilo & Stitch. They were kinda underrated. Michael Tebera did a fantastic job because I still kinda remember Time Squad OST and the Lilo & Stitch's opening I'll carry it to my grave.

This was a really fun show growing up. It probably influenced my love of pro wrestling and lucha libre in a big way. Plus the opening is still stuck in my head to this day.

As a mexican, this unlocked a memory for me. I used to watch this all the time as kid. Great video! thanks for the nostalgia trip.

I liked this show a lot as kid and always tough this was a Mexican made show, I was very surprised when I found out it wasn't the case, it had a lot of references that are very accurate to lucha libre and old luchador cinema.
Spanish dub was a lot of fun and added a lot of regionalisms specially The flea voice actor (known to improvise and adding a lot of Mexican slang to his characters dialogs) he was my favorite, this is one of those shows that I feel weird watching in english and always look for the dub whenever I go back to it.

The early 2000s were full of new shows that experimented with new things. Shows like mucha lucha got to enjoy their time in the spotlight but then faded away.

I remember watching Kid's WB shows a lot with my brothers. I was really young when "Mucha Lucha" aired. I remember liking it and thinking it was funny, but I can only recall moments from few episodes. Still, Kid's WB was one of the positive memories of my childhood.
