Grass is a single plant and NEVER plant again. You only have to grass roll it after each harvest and it is good to go. Corn you have to field prep and re-plant after every harvest for less yield. Yes grass makes you do a bit more more often vs once or twice a year for corn. However the benefits far out weigh the costs. Also, with Grass you can choose to do one harvest as hay and one as sileage and alternate if you wish to make TMR or have other animals that need hay as well. You can't do that with corn. So no mater if you have animals to take care of or just selling silage for profit, Grass is still more cost effective and actually requires less than corn. At least in my book.

Plant corn.

One month before max growth, chaff it. You get the same amount of chaff you would at full harvest.

Now, plant barley in the same field.

Chaff one month before max growth. Plant corn.

Repeat.

It provides 1.5 times the chaff you would get if it was a grass field harvested at max growth 4 times a year.

Barley provided more chaff than any other crop, excluding corn. Grass is not a crop, fyi.

If you use the Barley/Corn method, you will get more chaff, the field is never empty, and you do less work over all than grass.

And if you hate bunkers, dump the chaff into the Goweil stationary baler.

For maximum profits, own the BGA and put the silage into that instead of selling it.

If Giants changes grass back to 3 month for full growth cycles, assuming it currently bugged, then grass cuts at 3 times a year will be even further behind corn/barley cycle.

Grass isn't to labor intensive if you can invest in it. Get a mower that can pile it in a row, pick it up with a forage harvester and then just back it up to the Goweil Master V140 right into a bale storage shed. Then all you need to do is roll the field.

I’ve always used corn for just my own personal quirks. It gave me a reason to plant corn outside a base food for my pigs and plain and simple it gave me a reason to use a forage harvester which is a cool piece of equipment. I enjoyed the animation of the corn being chopped. The yield was nice as well and back before I played seasons it you harvested in the last growth stage before it was fully ripened that would save some time for close to the same yield and allow you to replant quicker. Now that I play seasons that still helps if you want to squeeze in a barely harvest too. I don't like doing grass as I feel I'm just constantly mowing and that starts to feel a bit tedious.

Grass. Hay and Silage and the addition of Hay Pellets are a lot of fun. I run with 250 head of cattle, and grass is a must for the required TMR (Hay and Silage) I tend to use a fermenting Silage for the TMR mixing Mod and wrap the bales for sale. I play for Rest and Relaxation. Problem is the Straw, so lot's pf grain crops are grown. I also make Hay Pellets just to break it up, if I have reached my TMR yearly Hay quota.

I watched a video with the same title just a few hours ago and got quite disappointed, I thought "I wish Farmer Cop would do the same kind of video 'cause he's way more precise" and there we thank you so much, as always great work, excellent content

With grass you can keep cutting it when its ready but leave the swaths on the field each time. Then forage or bail the swaths once per year in November.

I just go with grass. The game is supposed to be chill and relax. I just love baling grass and then wrapping them with the Kuhn square wrapper. the sound and animation is so good. I installed the fast bale wrapper mod which made the process 10 times faster, but then uninstalled it and come back to the original, because the mod messed up with the sound and animation. My wrapping session last for 30 mins in real time on my 3.5ha grass field, and it's fine by me

Mowing and bailing is fun. And fs17 throwbacks, it’s just a habit for quick money after you spend a good part of a million on the gear.

As someone else already mentioned, I don't think there is a fermenter for corn and grass on mod hub yet. Modular bga has a fermenter, but only works with stuff already in process within that loop, can't dump corn and grass in there raw. There are several fermenters on other sites that with a few simple edits can be made useful. Oma Tana's set is the one we all need, and it's not here yet.

With seasons on I'll plant corn in April and chop it in Sept then plant grass in the same field. You can mow the grass in November and replant corn in April. It's more work so I don't do it all the time but gives a nice extra yield.

Does anyone know if any modders are working on a fermenting silo? I saw one on a third party site but I don’t want to download from there.

I like growing grass bc its multi use. Every other harvest i bale for silage and ill also bale hay.

Grass doesn’t grow during the winter period, so you can harvest it a maximum of 4 times.
But why does no one try wheat, canola, barley, and oats?
Barley is said to have a high yield, so maybe it could produce more than corn?

Yall need to use the forage harvester to cut your grass. It’s 2 birds with one stone bc you don’t have to drive over the field after to pick up the grass. Then when your field is done fill up trailers from the silo with grass and rock the goweil baler. Fire bro

You can mow the Grass multiple times and pick it up in the End of the year.. What is the name of the fermenting silo?

I was wondering about turning poplar into silage… What do you think the effect would be, I'm especially interested in it since it's another one of those that you don't have to keep replanting
