As long as there’s coffee, a toothbrush and a toilet, seems like a perfect morning routine to me 😂

Ranger you are far from lazy, you're hiking miles daily while carrying a backback. You are awesome, just in case you forgot!

Just a hint from another traveler with a similar stove. If you wrap tinfoil around the flame and bottom of the pot, it cooks a lot faster. Also super light and saves on gas!

When I was they hiking the mst, I used a synthetic bag. That way, unless I was soaking wet, I could just climb into my bag I’m at night after just taking off my shoes and socks. It made it faster to get going in the morning. I also noticed I moved pretty slowly in the morning, so I had my pack packed that night. I left out my breakfast and toothbrush. My pack had an exterior pocket that I shoved my fuel, stove, pot/spoon, and Hygene kit into. I did not pack my tent and sleeping bag separately. I kept my sleeping bag inside the tent, shoved it into a WP stuff sack, and attacked it to the top of my 38L pack.

Not a morning person, so everything I could do to make my morning routine simpler, I did.

The only thing I'd do differently is coffee before oatmeal. ☕😋

What would I do? I'd have a beer in that beautiful place called a privy.

I'm impressed! It's easy to forget all the little things like drying etc. Looks like a good routine.🤠

Thru hiked the via Alpina in Switzerland this summer and it also took me 1.5h from alarm to leaving camp: 6:30-08:00.

Tbh...I hate the mornings 😒 when I start walking it gets better but packing everything and cleaning/feeding yourself is too much

Pct hiker here. I started to not put my bag in a stuff sack. I would put my other stuff in and than mash my bag around it. I also did not eat first thing in the morning. Just added via to my water sometime after a few miles and ate vars instead of making breakfast. I was always the first person on the trail because I'm I enjoyed watching the sunrise. So a lot of these time saving were for additional sleep. As you know hike your own hike, and 😉

When I took my troop to Philmont they didnot want to waste time boiiing water for breakfast, so we drank a quart of water and left camp. About 2 hrs later they stopped to ret and ate their frees dried oatmeal and washed it down with water and we started hiking again.

Get up at 5 Drink 4 cups of water while packing up and breaking camp. Put wet tent in a dry bag. Take care of personal needs leave at 5:45. Have snack on the trail. Have lunch, coffee and dry your gear at 12 or 1:00 and take an hour break. Have Supper and set up camp at 5:30-6:30 pm. Goal is 10-11 hours each day. When you take too long to get on the trail in the morning you never makeup that time or miles and start to feel like your are falling behind schedule. The faster and farther you travel will decrease the amount of food you need to carry. I personally carry a 9x9 tarp and hammock. For mild weather I use a foil foam truck windshield sun reflector under me and a 2 lb sleeping bag. I carry a 6 oz SOL Mylar heat sheet, which is quiet, strong, and cheap safety pinned inside the bag if temps drop to low in the mountains. Putting clear packaging tape on the SOL Mylar sheet before pinning is also recommended. Advantages. I don’t need a flat spot to pitch, and can sit and get my legs up and cook and dress standing up under the tarp.

i used my time on the AT to quit coffee... though I am a masochist. I usually started the day with 5-6 miles to warm up and get the bowels moving.

This reminds me of the daily short videos I loved watching while following your journey on the AT. You are the best. Take care.

Ranger, you are not lazy for using the same bowl, that is minimizing weight to haul around. You are smart.

Nothing wrong with camping gear doing double duty😊

Thanks for sharing! I'm hoping to do some decent backpacking stints in the near future, it's good to see a bit of the day to day while Thru-hiking.

What would I do differently? I would take two poop trips.

If it's raining pack everything, make the instant coffee hot chocolate, pack everything into dry bag and start running immediately. If there is snow on the ground my Alaskans would wear cheap flece pants

I'm being honest....not a joke question. where do you poop?? I have a "morning routine" that involves just that. Do you just dig a hole a squat (assuming there's NO facility/outhouse...unlike this clip)??? I've always wondered??🤔
