Chinese President Xi Jinping meets Vietnam's new leader To Lam; cross-border railways MoU inked

China and Vietnam inked 14 documents spanning cross-border railways to crocodile exports on Monday (August 19) after Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Vietnam's new leader, To Lam, in Beijing. Lam's visit to Beijing, his first overseas trip since coming to power, signals a desire between the two communist neighbours to strengthen ties, amid growing trade and investment, despite occasional clashes over boundaries in the South China Sea. China has always regarded Vietnam as a priority in its neighbourhood diplomacy," said Xi, who underscored establishing good working relations and personal friendship with Lam. The two countries also signed documents on planning and feasibility studies for standardised railway routes, in what appears as a new step towards the upgrade of cross-border rail links, after preliminary deals on the matter were signed in December during Xi's state visit to Hanoi.

It is good to see China Vietnam relations strengthened. It is in mutual benefits of both countries. But China must learn the lesson of having Marcos Jr who came to visit China right after he became Philippines president but now he is assisting the US to be an anti-China proxy fighter on South China Sea issue.
