The Vikings briefly conquered England under the Danish king Canute, but what if the empire held together? That is the question of this alternate history.

Amusing how the North Sea Empire would be a mini-mirrored mare nostrum, complete with a peninsula being a center of power. It'd make an interesting bit of historical rhyming if Britain becomes rather like the Eastern Roman Empire should the Germans take the Danish down.

What if there was a “scramble for China” in the late 19th Century?

If anybody here is interested in more viking stories from this time period, I highly recommend reading the manga series Vinland Saga. It is fiction, but it uses the historical chacaters of the time, main character being Thorfinn Karlsefni, also Leif Erikson, King Canute, Thorkell the Tall and others. It's about Thorfinn trying to escape the chaos of Europe and create a peaceful colony to repent for the killing he's done, and although they are filling in the gaps of history with fiction and it is still a fictional story more than anything, the author is very dedicated to being historically accurate to viking culture and the major events of the time. It started when Thorfinn was born and even showed Canute as a younger teenager, and the story will go all the way to the colonizing of Newfoundland

The North Sea Empire should have endured simply because it has a badass name.

Do you think you could a “What if Heraclius had beaten the Muslims in 630”, thereby keeping the Arabs out of the Levant, Egypt and North Africa?

I like that you're more specific with the timeline, will definetely come back here more often. I was disappointed in other althist channel for being too vague and focusing on reasons why and not the outcome.

I think the Danish empire would have an incredible head start to colonising the new world. The Norse already had made expeditions to the new world prior to the North Sea Empire. However, with more ships going to the new world, it’s hard to say how long they could keep it a secret

What if France became Protestant (Huguenot)?

It looks like Denmark controlling the British Isles, and as you said having their capital there, would in fact end up with a UK containing Denmark in the long run rather than the other way around.

Kinda weird how you think that Norway would not remain with the empire since Norway was in union with Denmark until 1800.
