I have filmed a quick look for you at how I go about darning. This was a requested video. I am not a great darner, but this should give you an idea of the process and aims of darning and how it can extend the life of our clothing.

Any darning tips to share? Do let me know in the comments below. :-)

We are a family of four, working hard to eat healthily, live frugally, pay off our mortgage early and save/invest for retirement. We’ve lived below the poverty line for many years and have now got our heads above that line. Our household income remains well below the national average in the UK but we have paid off all of our debt, including our mortgage.

It’s all hands on deck to save and invest for our retirement and for our children’s futures. We hope that we can put them in a position where they don’t have to struggle financially, as we have, and that we can break the generational cycle of poverty that we have experienced.

We all have different issues with food, including food sensitivities, so I shop to work around those considerations.

If you have found anything in this video useful, please give me a thumbs up and subscribe for more healthy eating and frugal living with a debt-free purpose 😊.

Thank you for sharing. It truly is a lost art, it needs to be taught. In these hard times we need to learn to make do with what we have and make them last.

Thank you so very much, Tess! I have never learned to darn a sock. I think I can do this!

Only a man would pile soil in front of a door ... I would be so cross I think I might show him a new use for a shovel and soil! 😠😄😄❤️ There are days Tess when things are just sent to try us. I've got some darning to do as well and will use first wool that comes to hand since they are only boot socks and won't be seen.

I should have subscribed ages ago!! I am the only person I know who earns my sox! Gramma taught me. I was at a permaculture training once and the pompous instructor was trying to go prove all the old skills were lost and started listing things. I was he only one who knew how to earn sox and I was wearing a darned so I at the time.

Nice functional mend
Well done 👍🏻
I do a lot of mending and repair work. Nothing wrong with a Visible Mend😉🪡🧵
I’m repairing a sweater with a choice of colorful yarns 🧶.
Using the similar weight,
as my focus~ rather than color.

My mom learned how to darn when she was in the orphanage. She taught me and I love to darn socks. My husband told me he wouldn't wear darned socks. He never knew he wore darned socks all the time.

I just darned 8 socks for my husband. Some of them were previous "darns" that had worn through!! I just fixed them again! I love making clothes last. I turn collars and cuffs on shirts too.

I was so happy to this video come up today! I love this. I am going to do this. I need to learn as many skills as I can. Is this the method you used to darn your sweater? Thank you Tess. You did good explaining. Oh one more thing....is the needle a special darning needle?
