Maybe the doughnut are the American version of Loukoumades. The name comes from the word Lokma in Arabic but the same recipe goes back all the way to ancient Greece where the authorities serve this as a prize for the winners in the ancient Olympic games. So its almost 2500 years old recipe and its greek. Same case is the cheesecake.
