Put a load on it?? Brake torque it a little bit and watch the belt and pulleys??? Just a guess.

I quit using Dayco & Gates decades ago. NAPA premiums! So far, so good....plus free replacement when it's time to change.

Mine has done that a couple times and I've never been able to track it down. Luckily, it ripped just one rib off this last time and I just left it and crossed my fingers. It's been fine for the last two years. If it goes again, I'll see if I can get a new belt one rib narrower and see how that goes.

everytime I put a new belt on, it shreds aboout 2 ribss off then it moves over on some of the pulleys then it stops shreadding more off. Does anyone know what the problem can be? I repleced AC condensor and my power steering pump seems to be leaking a little but I dont' know what the problem is.

Well that sucks to blow a new belt and no smoking gun to say there your problem lady. It could be just a bad belt?

Mine shredded the belt about a month ago. But in my case it was because the air compressor for the air-conditioning it froze up and then the belt just slid on it until it cooked itself and came apart.
