Video still in processing, but I had to post it ASAP!

My prediction is IO bus receiver latchup - its REALLY common in embedded processing and op-amps. If you drive the IO receiver above its VCC or below its ground it will cause the receiver to short circuit. It wouldnt have been possible on the memory io bus in the past because the SoC shared a power supply with the memory, but the memory has its own power supply in DDR5. All its going to take it the ground floating for a moment or something and theyre going to have VDDIO_MEM do above VDDCR_SOC (or below the SOC ground level) and latchup will occur.
When latchup occurs theres nothing that can be done other than remove the power FAST. Probably faster than temp monitoring can do it, would need to be power monitoring. Latchup can also be caused by any number of causes that said - extreme overheating (unlikely), cosmic rays, etc etc.

Not limited to x3d chips and not only happening at idle. Likely a batch of bad substrates.

7900x b650i aorus ultra here.. (f4 bios) I've had mine set to a manual overclock of 4.7ghz at 0.975vcore, EXPO has been on. according to hwinfo64 my soc isn't ever raising past 1.284 with or without the vcore soc being set lower.. however i went into bios and set a vcore soc of 1.25 to be safe. cpu only pulls 30-40w idle and around 98-100w full load. at 60c maximum. Don't see how this could possibly happen running the way she's set.

Interesting. While my PC (7950x3d) is idle I have heard my CPU fan crank up to full randomly, I wonder if that is related to idle power spikes. Normally my CPU idles at less than 50c

Something else is going on. Maybe an issue with the AM5 socket design. Or manufacturing defects with the CPUs.

The EXPO settings in the UEFI seem to be the reason for all these fails. Some boards allow close to 1, 5V of SOC Voltage that most possible is the root of the power peaks that can kill the thermal sensors on the CPU and allow the killing of it and the board's. If that theory is correct, once we disable the EXPO, those peaks could stop appearing.

Hello to the team, it is possible for the channel to test some of of the cablemod 90 and 180 degrees 12VHPWR connector s for us? Cause some users have problems with the cases cause we can't close the side panels if we don't bend the cable a little. Thank you for your time and την αγάπη μου από Ελλάδα ❤

i'm sell amd over 700 amd products from last year until now. none issue. from amd 3k to amd 7k. I don't buy out of fanaticism. this issues only happen with some certain people and asus mobo, also they have issue with memory.

Is it safer if I don't activate Expo and run RAM at it’s stock frequency and timings?

These X3D chips should not be overclocked or suffer such high idle spikes. Definitely wait for motherboard BIOS revisions, just to be sure.

It's one of two issues: 1. Too high of CPU voltage (eg transposed values 1.93v vs 1.39); 2. Manufacturing defect .. including gaps (missing) in 'STIM' and/or too thin STIM to IHS.

CPU's have no business using that much power at idle, should be ~10watt at idle.

I have an asus tuf gaming x670e-plus motherboard and a ryzen 9 7900x 32gb ddr5 ram in expo (6000 mhz). I have this equipment since November 2022, I play for several hours every day, I haven't noticed any burns, defects, explosions ;) CPU SoC voltage is 1.35V in expo and 1.040V without expo profile.. The temp and voltage of cpu i think is normal. Maybe it only applies to x3d 7000 series processors because in fact this problem appeared only 2 weeks ago and ryzen 7000 came out at the end of 2022.

does this burning/exploding issues happen on non x3d versions?

First time building a pc. I see some ddr5 ram cheap on ebay, shall i pair this up with a new am5 mobo and amd processor? Or will I be wasting my money since im a pc building novice again, and theres issues with these cpus?
