Wish companies would just pay their workers

As a European I gotta say, tipping is so weird, like the buisness should just pay their employees what they're worth, end of

Also went to Japan and loved not tipping. Employees seem happy to serve you and the best part was that (in Japan) they do not come to your table unless summoned. So you flag them down when you want to order, pay, or get something. They don’t pester you with overwhelming hospitality to appease their boss and get tips. They have the free time to focus on other tasks and are still happy as can be to help you when you call for them. Essentially the good service they provide seems much more authentic because they’re not being pressured to try and get tips.

the bigger problem is that menu prices have skyrocketed on top of tips

Paying workers a livable wage > tipping culture, also just include the Sales Tax in the price of the product.

Growing up in Canada in the late 90’s early 2000’s tips were 7-9-12% and most people would tip like 12-15% if they were a regular or had immaculate service.

Tipping was also only at restaurants.

The other day I went through a Starbucks drive through and I couldn’t just tap my card and be on my way because their machine had a tip prompt.

America misses slavery so much they invented tipping to compensate.

100% with you. Lady opened the fridge and handed the juice to me. Tip on screen said 15%, 25% or 30%. 🤦🏻‍♂️

If you can’t afford to pay your workers a decent wage, you don’t deserve to exist as a business.

Exclusively an American issue. In European countries you really only tip if the restaurant was nice, but to make it mandatory because the restaurant owners won't pay their employees workable wages is just ridiculous

Worst part is that tip sharing is the reason this happened. Restaurants are now legally allowed to take part of your tip and share it to others to pay for their wage.

The steakhouse I worked at took roughly 20% of my tips (putting my tips down to 14% when someone tipped 20%).

I'm English. Went for a haircut in America, and they asked how much I wanted to tip. I said 'for a haircut?!' so loud and with such consternation that all the other hairdressers turned around and gave me the evils.

You know it's bad when Fuslie's math stops working.

I'm a waitress in a small town and we don't even put recommendations for tips. We let people tip what they want. I am grateful for whatever I receive. 😊

Some guy deadass asked the waiter " are you guys not getting paid?"
He wasn't even being rude 😂

One of the craziest things that they are starting to do is give you a tipping option in a self service kiosk. It's like not only am I going to make you ring yourself up and bag your own things, I'm going to make you pay me for allowing you to work for me for free.

As a European, I fucking hated shopping and eating out in America. Your food is great, and your stores were awesome, but holy god damn your tipping culture and the hiding of tax is infuriating beyond belief. I was so happy to be back home and paying more for my restaurant bill and regular shopping items, because the price checked out. Also waiters actually get paid a proper wage, just like literally anyone should for working a fulltime job.
If you can't afford paying waiters a livable wage, maybe you can't afford to run a business.

There’s literally no defense for it. It’s meant to be a nice “hey you did good work!” from customers to employees.

We already pay for a food or service, we literally pay for their wage already. Then we’re asked to pay AGAIN for it?

And this is coming from someone in the service industry. It’s disgusting.

DON'T TIP ! I hardly ever tip, unless the service was super friendly. IT's NOT A MUST!
