Being Japanese, this is one of those cultural things we Japanese do that totally sucks. But thankfully this is not common in modern Japanese society. But knowing this mindset, one can kinda understand the weird things that Japanese have done throughout the years, like being a soldier still fighting 40 years after the war, etc.
