It was displaying the area each was mediocre in: the little boy - classwork, the pianist - the piano and the jock - football. What the all excelled in: Dance. Let's Hear It For The Boy!

I love this song! You guys need to watch the original movie Footloose with Kevin Bacon. The soundtrack to this movie is legendary!!! The scene in the movie where they play this song is Kevin Bacon trying to teach another guy (who has NO rhythm) to dance. It's adorable, and a very special memory for me from my high school years. The 80s were good times indeed...

Amber check out "Walking on sunshine" by Katrina and the waves. It's a catchy song that you would enjoy!

"Dancing in the sheets" by Shalamar. Another Footloose track.

You know I’m a total rock hound, but someone suggested Katrina and the Waves “Walking on Sunshine” and they are right!! You both would absolutely love it! You cannot help but have your spirits lifted by that song!!

I miss the 80's so much. My early teen years. This was a great song in the movie Footloose. 80's movies had some of the best soundtracks with like 5 or 6 great songs in each movie

Another 80's superstar was Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. "I wonder if I take you home, Head to Toe, Can you feel the beat, Que Sera que Sera." Are all great hits from her.

My mom loves to tell the story of when we met Deniece Williams in the subway. It was probably the late 70’s cuz I was maybe 5. My mom recognized her and I was very extroverted so I struck up a conversation. Next thing we know, she’s singing to me in the subway… NYC in the 70’s was a interesting place to grow up

Break Dancing!!! I love it! I was in grade school when this song came out. But now that I'm an Adapted PE teacher, I teach my students these moves. They are so AWESOME when they dance :) My students with Down Syndrome are the best break dancers :) The best part is that they love it!

Debbie Gibson is also someone that you NEED to check out. She is a fantastic vocalist who has been writing her own music since she was 16. Electric Youth and Lost in Your Eyes are my two favorites. But she has an entire huge catalouge of hits to choose from.

This song was featured in Footloose movie. The ultimate 80s dance movie. A must see.

This song is really fun. She had another great tune, “Free, ” a slower tempo love song which really shows off her high range in particular.

The 80's sound that you were talking about at the end is the sound of synthesizers which really blew up in the 80's giving birth to synthpop. They're still used a lot today, but it seems they're mostly used to reproduce common drum, guitar, bass and piano sounds and less of the electronic sounds outside of EDM/techno and dance music.

There's a YouTuber named Dovydas who performs on the street with a modern synthesizer/mixer and can put together some sweet tunes along with his guitar and sometimes a singer from the crowd.

Deniece Williams also had a hit duet with Johnny Mathis: "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" (1978). It's honestly criminal that you haven't discovered any Johnny Mathis music yet .... the classiest balladeer with #1 hits from 1956 through 1978: Twelfth of Never ... Chances Are ... Wonderful Wonderful.

As someone who spent his adolescence in the 80s, I can say this is iconically of the decade. This was the true spirit, at least for a ten to fifteen year old.

Denise didn't have a huge amount of hits, which is a shame bc her vocal range is stupendous! She did have a hit duet with the great Johnny Matthis(another artist you should check out) called "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" which is super dope.
