"Let's Hear It for the Boy" is the second number-one song for both Deniece Williams and the soundtrack to the feature film, Footloose. It climbed to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, as well as number one on the dance and R&B charts, and peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song, and, in 1992, was certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Lyrics:

My baby he don't talk sweet,
he ain't got much to say.
But he loves me loves me loves me,
I know that he loves me anyway.
And maybe he don't dress fine,
But I don't really mind.
'Cause every time he pulls me near,
I just wanna cheer.

CHORUS
Let's hear it for the boy
Oh, let's give the boy a hand.
Let's hear it for my baby,
You know you gotta understand.
Oh, maybe he's no Romeo,
But he's my love and one man show.
Whoawhoawhoawhoa
Let's hear it for the boy.

My baby may not be rich,
He's watchin' every dime.
But he loves me loves me loves me,
We always have a real good time.
And maybe he sings off key,
But that's alright by me, yeah.
'Cause what he does he does so well,
Makes me wanna yell.
(CHORUS)

'Cause every time he pulls me near,
I just wanna cheer.
(CHORUS)

(Let's hear it for the boy)
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for my babe)
Let's hear it my man
(Let's hear it for the boy)
(Let's hear it for my babe)
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for my babe)
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Pull yourself together
(Let's hear it for my babe)
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Whoa let's hear it for my boy
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for my babe)

Kevin teaching Chris how to dance was magic...the best scene in the movie...Chris passed way too young...he should still be here...sad.

This scene was the highlight of the movie for me. And it showed that even us old farm boys (with proper instruction) can learn to dance with the best of them. RIP Chris Penn

Movies today got technology but movies from the 80s had magic, life, emotion, thought, character, heart-throbs, story, fun. Soundtracks, They just had something special about them. Like they gave you a feeling watching them.

Like someone else had ever said it: The 1980's were not another time, they were another world.

No Footloose remake can give us what the 80's gave us!

no cell, no facebook, none of those -- just a pure blast having fun being in the 80s, dancing to this :)

Chris Penn was perfect for this role because, aside from anything else, he couldn't dance at all when they started. He really was learning to dance throughout the filming, and he worked HARD for what he gained. He's never really good, but by the end, he's dancing all the steps without a mishap, and that's saying a lot for the amount of time he had to spend on it.

These 2 had more of a romance arc than the actual romance arc

Another great song/video from the epic Footloose movie. Hard to believe it was forty years ago since the music world heard it for the boy.
Deniece Williams gave a perfect rendition.

Someone who can dance that well. It takes more skill to pretend he cant. Have you ever tried tapping off beat? Its practically impossible. Mega props to him xx

The 80s taught us that all our problems can be solved by the power of dance. Long live Footloose! :D

I used to sing along with this when my son was a baby.   I changed the words to "Let's hear it for Mom's baby."   This song brings tears to my eyes remembering those days.
