You’re very correct. I’m not in Canada 🇨🇦 but it’s the same thing everywhere. To also include that long term mortgage repayment is not an absolutely smart way of investing.. Leverage your equity in reinvesting..

I think it depends on what your values are. If you like order, fixed patterns, urban lifestyle and living in a closed community with neighbors whom share the same values, then condos are for you. If you like individualism, privacy and a bit of improvisation in your life, then a single house is for you.

I would say to anyone watching- do your research and definitely speak with an experienced realtor. I own a condo in Ontario. The fees are less than 30% of my mortgage. The fees have decreased in the almost 2years since I’ve owned it. I have rented it and the bylaws only require me me to inform the condo mgt and provide the tenants info so the tenant can be informed about any changes/updates, parking etc. There was NO requirement to take permission. The bylaws also do NOT require me to take permission to paint my condo/any repairs inside the house. Yes there are restrictions but it is no way close to what is stated in this video. I recommend people to do actual research and make an informed decision that fits your situation. I’ll tell you for free that I have made no loss and have no regrets buying a condo. I must add that I use a reputable tenant mgt company to manage the property.

Everything depends on the condo board. And all of them are not the same. If you must buy a condo, check what the condo board allows and disallow.

With renovation, the rule is generally whatever is inside the house is yours, outside the condo board takes care of.

There's a specific niche market condos serve, if that's you, buy. If not don't.

Let's avoid blanket statements.

I never liked condos. I was thinking of buying when I was younger, but glad I didn't. A person in Vaughan, ON unalived people on the condo board. He was having ongoing conflicts with the condo board.
